nvidia.jpgThe specifications and launch date of Nvidia’s much rumoured GeForce GTX 660 Ti has appeared online and it looks like we can look forward to a really interesting card if the details prove to be correct. As with the GeForce GTX 670, the GeForce GTX 660 Ti is based on Nvidia’s Kepler GPU architecture and judging by the specs, it’s not going to be that much slower.
For starters, the GeForce GTX 660 Ti appears to be night on identical to the GeForce GTX 670, with the same base core clock of 915MHz, the same boost frequency of 980MHz, the same CUDA/Shader count of 1,344 cores and even the same memory clock speed of 1,502MHz (6008MHz effectively). The only apparent difference is the memory bus which has been reduced to 192-bit compared to 256-bit for the GeForce GTX 670, although Nvidia has still managed to keep the memory count at 2GB.

The card is said to have a lower 150W TDP which is somewhat odd considering that normally the TDP doesn’t drop by that much simply by reducing the memory bus. The reference cards are said to sport DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity as well as two 6-pin power connectors and of course a dual slot cooler.

The GeForce GTX 660 Ti is said to be launching on the 16[SUP]th[/SUP] of August for a yet unknown price point, but we’d guess the new card will end up somewhere between the $299.99 and $349.99 price points, considering the cards will retail for around the equivalent of $435 in Sweden including 25 percent sales tax according to Sweclockers.

The specs make no sense. Why would they release a card that's an almost exact duplicate of another? Usually the different tiers of cards are actually chips designed to be the high end but they didn't make the cut. They couldn't get the clock speed high enough, or some cores were unusable. So they lower the clock speed, disable some cores and sell it as a cheaper product. To have a perfectly good 670 chip but put it in a 660Ti instead? Why? Not to mention you can't get 2GB VRAM with a 192-bit bus.

you can have 2 GB VRAM, this is seen with how they have 1 GB VRAM on 550 Ti's. Second is that it is not going to be a 670 just slower memory it is also supposed to only have 1152 but clock speeds that match a reference 680 (1006). That is probably how it can have the 150 W power versus the up to 200 power draw of a 670. But at the same time many 670's draw just over 150 when maxed. So if the VRAM does allow the max to be lower then this is turning out to be a great card for the price. Just hope they release a 4 gig card otherwise I'll be getting a 670.

The specs in the article above says everything is the same but the memory. Could you post the article saying 1152 cores? That's more believable.
