Hey everyone.

My OS X was working fine, but from yesterday I've been experiencing slowness. It's most noticed in games, where my FPS is now much lower instead of smooth (It used to be flat 60-80, but now it is 45 or even lower sometimes).

I also added a memory optimiser application I got from the App Store and I've noticed a lot of my memory is used by OS X and there isn't much free, so I always have to 'free' it using the software. There are times where only 16 MB is available (and that where the slowness begins).

Did I do anything that might have affected? Yes. I removed all the hardware and components from my case and reinstalled them after a few hours (I had to do it, don't ask why). So things like certain SATA connections are not in the same spot as they were, but the machine is functioning so I didn't 'ruin' anything.

What could be the issue? What can I do to diagnose it?

Thanks,
Best regards.

Your problem is kind of vague. To me 45 FPS isn't all that slow but then again, I know others view FPS as gospel.

The real key to getting help is helping us by telling us specific details about your system. You haven't told us your motherboard, how much memory (and speed of) you have, whether or not you use an SSD or even what version of OSX you have. Is it just a specific game or all games? Have you checked the forums of the games you're having problems with to see if others are having problems?

IMO memory optimizers are useless under OSX.

Also, integrated HD4000 graphics aren't exactly cutting edge tech these days when it comes to gaming.

Thanks for the reply.

First of all, I'd like to start by saying that HD 4600 is a great graphics card - it ran smoothly everything I play (CS:GO, League of Legends, Garry's Mod, and much others).

Like I said in the first post, my OS X worked great, FPS was smooth in League of Legends, and then now it drops and I can't play on full resolution because it would drop too low causing me to be unable to play (15 to 20). It USED to work great, but now the whole OS X experience is slow.

Yes, I'm using SSD. My motherboard is ASUS H97M-E.

OS X is being really slow, would a reinstall fix the issue? Or what can I do to find the issue? It's really slow now, even when I'm typing, or just watching videos.

Have you recently added new hardware? Have you recently updated OSX and forgot to reinstall a kext file? A full reinstall should fix the problem provided you follow your original procedure and nothing has changed in your hardware profile (which you really need to fill out).

good luck

Nope. The only thing I did from the night it was working flawlessly to the other day it was working slowly was taking out apart my whole computer and reassmbling it, so things like certian SATA positions have changed. BISO didn't reset.

Also, if not to use the HD 4600 - I do have ATI Radeon HD 4770, however, there doesn't seem to be kext that supports it. Would you mind giving me another suggestion on how would I go on using that graphics card? Or should I stick with the HD 4600?

You didn't put your graphics card back in a different slot by any chance did you ?

Edit : No you didn't - ASUS H97M-E only has one slot.

I'm not using an external graphics card anyway, I'm using the intergrated graphics card.
