G5 Mouse for Windows Install
Samsung 30" LCD Had to use this to get my OS X Lion going

Comments
- Primary Uses for this build are for video editing and music editing in both Windows 7 and OSX
- I looked for a decent price/performance ratio with emphasis on a long lasting buid, some upgradability, and a $2000 budget
- I chose the ATI HD 6870 due to its compatibility, but I will be waiting for OSX Lion & 6890 to work well together, then I will upgrade.
- I really like Corsair's overall quality, and have always been happy with their performance

Summary

This is my first Hackintosh build, I tried for 2 days to install Snow Leopard encountering countless errors with MultiBeast. After trying to deduce what was wrong it was the fact that I was using an old Dell LCD that had a VGA Output with a VGA -> DVI adapter. I figured this out, when I found Gordo79's Guide and he had identical parts and a working OS X Lion build. So I figured I'd skip Snow Leopard and jump into Lion which I did. The big giveaway was when I loaded the Lion install and my display disappeared! I switched to a newer monitor, and then install went fairly smooth after that. I installed Windows 7 afterwards, and everything ran without a hitch.
I usedxMove + MultiBeast to prepare my xMove'd USB and Gordo74's Guide: GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 with ATI 6870 - Clean Lion Install for installing OS XLion.
Downloads used to get this build working:
MultiBeast 4.0.2: Lion Edition
rBoot
xMove
DSDT-GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3-F9.aml
Lnx2Mac RTL81xx Beta Realtek Network Driver .90

Procedure: I followed Gordo74's guide completely, the things I had to do, is to get my internet working by going into System Preferences -> Network -> I Deleted all the connections by selecting them and clicking -, then I restarted and added the ethernet connection. Then my internet worked fine.
Gordo74's guide mentions re-installing Audio if it does not work, that is exactly what I had to do. Re-run MultiBeast, and install the two Audio drivers, restart and it worked.
Dual-Booting Windows 7
This was fairly simple. I disconnected my OS X Lion drive, connected my other SSD. Installed Windows 7, I did create two partitions. Install ran fine. I reconnected the OS X Lion drive, and two 1 TB Drives as storage for both systems. I clicked space to get into Chimera, but clicked on Windows and that gave me a BOOTMgr error, so I had to click on "System Reserved" and that worked fine.

Background

I wanted to build using the Sandy Bridge, simply for all the benefits. The system screams now, and I am very happy with it. Sadly I will have to "give" this baby away. I built this for my dad and he will get to enjoy. I will run benchmarks on it soon. I wanted to use Build # 4 from Building a Sandy Bridge CustoMac: Recommended Builds for OS X I picked out all of the components starting with the MotherBoard thanks to DSDT Database: Gigabyte Socket 1155 Updates which made me comfortable with my choice.

This Build will be used for Final Cut Pro X and Logic, which is already installed. As well as in Windows 7, Corel Studio Pro X4. After completing this build, I think I am very sold on the components. In the Windows experience it gets a 7.7 which is awesome. I am considering overclocking it more (4.2ghz now) but I think I may leave it for the simple reason of longevity. I wanted to thank the members, TonyMac, Stork, and Gordo74! I was incredibly frustrated with the SnowLeopard install (4 days of Kernel Panics) and was very satisfied (and relieved) once I figured out what was wrong.

EDIT Log:

Hey BigK,

thanks for the post! I'm just planning a very similar build for my studio - just want to have logic running rock-solid - but after reading for nearly two weeks in this forum i'm still a bit confused :D

Do you have experience with running logic on your build? And is it as fast as it is supposed to be (by chosen components)?

Thanks!

I learned somethin new.

Thanks, you saved me with this comment "I clicked space to get into Chimera, but clicked on Windows and that gave me a BOOTMgr error, so I had to click on "System Reserved" and that worked fine" I´ll try it this night and see

I was at severe frustration levels after my displayed disappeared for the 3rd time after installing MB DSDT. Good work. Now if only I can find out how to connect to App Store.

Hi folks,this guide doesn't work for me. Have same mobo,same processor,same video card.

Regards,sorry for my bad english.

Hey loko,

try Gordo's guide:

viewtopic.php?f=168&t=32306

I have the same mobo & CPU and it this installation-guide worked flawless for me. Only for ethernet you'll have perhaps to try an other installer as used in Gordo's guide.

I just finished a build with the same mobo and i7-2600k for my studio. Running 10.6.8 instead of Lion, and not nearly as tricked out as this build. I haven't installed Logic yet, but using Ableton Live 8 + Max For Live, Reason, ArkaosVJ, FC Pro X, CS5 it has been stupid fast, and very stable so far.

Geekbenches 10600+ at stock 3.4 ghz. 12600+ OC'd @ 4 ghz with stock heatsink.

The only problem I've had with the motherboard is the firewire chipset (VIA, i believe). I use a Presonus Firebox which is notoriously finicky with anything other than a TI chipset, so I had to order a separate PCIe card to avoid annoying random audio dropouts.

If I get Logic online soon I'll let you know how it goes. Peace :headbang:

Please add a MultiBeast screen snapshot to your OP. The MB will greatly help others. (See my build descriptions for example.)

You can do this by:
- making the MB window the active window;
- stretch the MB Window to make it as long as possible to get everything in view including striking the bottom explanation window to nothing (hide your dock, too);
- type Command-Shift-4 to get the cross up;
- type Space Bar to get the window camera icon; and
- hit any key but the Space Bar to take a picture which will appear on your Desktop.
Put the picture on PhotoBucket (open to the public) or whatever is you favorite photo site. Use the bbcode when you edit your OP.

I am trying to start from scratch...have the same configuration...where should I start from (NOOB) ???
