Just woke up and got the Audio working so it is 95% functional without fully testing the USB 3.1(10gb/s). I don't have any USB 3.1 devices and primarily use Thunderbolt being a photographer with the need for high speed transfers....excited to see what 3.1 has in store, I hope it can daisy chain...biggest gripe about USB. Front USB 2.0 & 3.0 work great on the FDR5 unit. Ordered an additional 140mm BeQuiet! Silent Wings 2 1000rpm fans for added cooling and pressure in the case to alleviate any unwanted dust within the case.

Thinking about purchasing 16gb more in ram but at this time, I don't find the need with the processor doing way better than my old 2011 2.3Ghz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro which now needs a battery, the display is slowly failing and I've replaced the internal hard drive & optical drive to 2 SSD units(500gb & 120gb units) which if I try and sell I will put the other 500gb in the R5 and utilize a windows partition on that.

I primarily purchased the mother board for simply future proofing the build. The 1150 socket will be able to upgrade at any time but this unit even without hyperthreading is a great solution. The GTX760 is more than handling the normal day to day tasks like Photoshop & Lightroom without hesitation. The 8x hard drive rack is WAY more than needed considering I have 2x external hard drives for backup raid solutions.

Overall super stoked to finally have this updates from my old Silverstone FT03B Gigabyte Z87(GA-Z87MX-D3H) small form build which I will not be using for a possible PCTV build for watching movies etc.

Thanks for looking and to Tony for making this possible to not spend $4000+ build from apple....way more happy this way.

Hello, I have the similar build with you, but I just want to know that does imessage and facetime work on your build?
thank you

I have a similar config (mobo/cpu/gpu).. Just curious what workflow did you follow to get everything running? And at 95%, what is the 5% not fully functional (usb 3.1 or something else)?

The only things that do not work are the usb 3.1 which I cannot test the 10gb/s transfer speed because I don't believe they have any usb 3.1 devices thus far BUT the USB ports do function properly. The other bit is the Asus Thunderbolt EX II which I am working to try and get this operational but every install process has led up to yielding no successful results. It is recognized in the BIOS UEFI advanced section but not within Mac OSX 10.10.4 Yosemite. People keep referring me to a post that does not work.

Perhaps I am installing the drivers into the wrong bootable hard drive? I don't know. I use parallels via drive that I do not boot from so this may be the problem but the BIOS would still pick it up regardless....or so I think. Not quite sure on this and still working on it.

Jkiller I do not use facetime or iMessage and keep these strictly to my smaller macbook pro for these so I have not tested. I also don't use on this platform because I do not want more clutter of wires from a mic + vid cam.

I have the same motherboard, but using Clover to boot. When the system wakes from sleep, the USB 3.1 ports on the back (2 of them) do not work anymore until I reboot. Do you get this as well?

I was hoping to get some help from twobit2354 or superdood. I have basically the same setup as superdood but I have not had any luck making it through the install with either clover or unibeast. Could you guys help me out. I was leaning toward using clover since it will allow more features to work but its not a necessity.

Any info as far as your install processes would be great. Drivers removed from the install drive, boot flags that you used, what components were installed in the computer during the osx install, etc...

I can't get the USB 3.1 ports to work on this board at all (with any of my USB devices). Any ideas?

I had el capitan booting on m.2 SM951 AHCI on the z97-a, but then i put the z97-a 3.1 mobo in and i get this error anytime i try and sign in. I use my bootable clover USB and its the same problem. Am I just not able to use this version of the mobo on el capitan? Or do I need to reinstall the OS on the m.2?

Hi guys, did any of you upgrade to El Capitain?

I have just built a box with Asus Z97/USB3.1. The OS is running fine, but USB3.0/3.1 ports are not working, only my frontal USB2.0 ports...

Any ideas?

Thanks!
