I had my eye on this system ever since the iMac 5k came out with the same processor and I guessed that it would work well, so far so good...
My uses are for video and photo storage and editing, my last workstation was a 27 inch iMac with a 2.93 i7, but storage was too limited even after I added the eSATA port.
I knew I had to have at least as fast a processor for this build and also wanted the ability to add a lot of drives, which is why I chose such a big case.
Installation Notes
I followed this guide http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-...-x-yosemite-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html
I tried several times and was getting the boot0 error so I fixed it using an external USB case and my MacBook. Installed Yosemite on the build then removed the hard drive and ran MuiltBeast on my MacBook targeting the drive.
UEFI Settings
1. To access UEFI Setup, press and hold Delete on a USB Keyboard while the system is booting up
2. Set to Optimized Defaults.
3. (Optional) Set X.M.P. Memory Profile to Profile1
4. Save and exit.
It booted right up after that, I never used a boot flag once. I had freezes now and then but changed the BIOS XHCI to Auto from Smart Auto and it hasn't frozen again yet.
MultiBeast Settings
Yosemite 10.10.5 - MultiBeast for Yosemite
Additional Notes
If you have freezes, make sure you uncheck Generate CPU States.
My System Definition is iMac 15.1 which I chose because it has the same processor.
Lingering Questions
1. Is it OK that the processor is running at 4.3 in the profiler? bios and HW monitor say 4.0 but wasn't sure if that was an issue.
2. Is the below power supply enough for this build?
I plan to add 750Ti video card when it comes -
3. advice on installation of video card is welcome...
Thanks to all the forum post I gleaned to get her working...
