Comments

First of all, I want to thank tonymacx86 and all the contributors that published guides on this forum and of course all the developers of tools that were needed for this hackintosh.

Owner of an old mid 2007 iMac with a Core 2 Duo, my needs evolve to a more performane configuration for video and photo edition, moreover my kids start playing PC Games at friends’ houses and ask me for having also a gaming PC at home.

So my choice was a mix of performance and small form factor that will answer these family needs with:
- OS X and Linux for video and photo edition (with a 4k screen even if its not an IPS display)
- Win10 for starting a gaming experience with a entry level graphics card.

With this build, I managed to prepare a triple boot, Mac, win and Linux with 2 SSD, one with OS X only and Win10 and Linux mint on the other one.

With the following steps:

EL CAPITAN

I followed those 2 guides:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/u...pitan-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.172672/
http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-el-capitan-on-the-skylake-h170n-wifi.178197/

1 - Creation of El Capitan 10.11.5 usb boot disk with UniBeast

2 - Bios settings :
  • OS type : Other OS ( put it to Win8/10 after all installations o have clover in high resolution)
  • Fast boot : disabled
  • CSM : disabled (reenabled after all installations to have clover in high resolution)
  • VT-d : disabled
I don’t remember but I think that I made the installation with Integrated graphic enabled and afterwards put it to PCIE

3 - El Capitan installation and Post installation with MultiBeast and Clover Configurator

After some trouble with GTX graphic card (strange behavior with displayports, horrible pink and green display with a lots of artifact) I finally decided to use the HDMI port, I finally manage to find the right combination, don’t know if everything is useful, but here are my Clover settings

Clover Configurator:
  • Boot : dart=0, nvda_drv=1
  • SMBios : Mac Pro 3,1 (tried with iMac , but get into some problems)
  • Install drivers (don’t know if everything is useful !)
    • OsxAptioFix2Drv
    • VboxExt4
    • GrubUDF
    • VboxIso9600 (that was for my try to install linux via DVD after unsuccess)
    • HFSPlus UEFI
    • OsxFatBinary DRV UEFI
    • NTFS UEFI (think it was needed for Win10)

Installation of alternate nvidia graphics :
http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/n...cs-drivers-for-os-x-10-11-5-346-03-10.193172/

Installation of HDMI audio (without volume control) -> use of HDMIAudio-1.0 disk img
http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/clover-hdmi-audio-for-nvidia-amd-cards-easy-way.145399/

Then we need to enable volume control for HDMI audio -> use of sound siphon demo (I don’t need to capture sound, so demo is perfect) http://staticz.com
  • In OS X System Preferences - Sound, select Sound Siphon Out
  • In the Sound siphon app : Go to Menu Preferences and select Output device : HDMI

Until now, it works without issues.

WINDOWS 10

I downloaded the Win10_1511_2_N_French_x64.iso directly from MS website

I used the following guide and everything worked perfectly: http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/g...e-boot-with-windows-10-and-linux-mint.194736/

The only difference was the BootCamp assistant forced the 2nd checkbox ticked

Now Windows is visible via CLOVER

LINUX MINT 17,3 Cinnamon 64 bit

Lots of trouble with this one, I followed the previous guide but I was never able to boot into linux from CLOVER directly or not, boot hang on with white cursor waiting on the top left corner.

After, I’ll say 20 attempts, with creation of EFI dedicated partition, with Legacy…., I found an alternate procedure for the partitions formatting.
Following the previous guide, I just added a 200MB partition in ext4 with the mounting /boot
and selected this one for the Device for boot loader installation !
That’s it ! It works.

FINALLY
Just change back the following BIOS settings and CLOVER was now in high res:
  • OS type : Win8/10
  • CSM : enabled

Yeah, for my first mackintosh, I’m now proud to have a triple boot !!!!

If any of you have some comments or remarks to make me improve my configuration, just let me know, I’ll certainly give it a try.

Thanks to all.

Thank you ! I was hesitant to buy this motherboard even though it was recommenced by tonymac because I couldn't find anyone who could actually make it work. But now I'm more confident. I'll buy it and tell you if it worked for me ;)

Let me know if you face some issue, we will compare our settings.
Note that I had to reinstall Win10, the license key I bought was not accepted by the ISO I downloaded and during the reinstall, I had to change my bios settings several times in order to boot properly into USB and then Win10 and then back to Clover.

Finally bought the pc parts and put them together !
I followed the guides but no luck, the Installer wont boot .. I dont know were to look in the boot log to see the exact error, and it reboot too fast to see anything ..If you have any idea Ill take it :)

Here are my specs :

- Z170m-D3H
- I7 6700
- GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 Gamin
- 500go SSD (for OSX)
- 500go SSD (for Win)

Insert the installer thumb drive in one of USB 2 ports in the "column" with the PS/2 port.

Yep i did that, I managed to boot by disabling Superserial ATA (if I remember) in the BIOS
everything runs smoothly ! :)

Happy to know that it now runs correctly.

I just bought this motherboard and CPU and will start building it next week! I'll definitely report back and see if all goes well with me too! Thanks for all the info. Have you had any other hiccups with the system now that it has been running for a while? How is the video card working out?
