Thank you for sharing that config.plist! I struggled for so long to get mine to boot to the installer and your config file did the trick!

brumbaer

I have the exact same setup except I am using the onboard Intel Graphics HD 530 instead of 980 at this time. I am waiting to get a NVIDIA 1080. I was wondering if you could give me an estimate of how long it would probably take for drivers to be released for it?

Also when using the onboard sound card. I am using digital speakers that use COAX S/PDIF connections. The mobo has a header on the board for an extra COAX S/PDIF output. When I go under System Preferences / Sound I do not see the Coax digital output just the optical. Do you know of anyway to enable the Coax output?

Hey y'all, another user in a thunderbolt thread helped me find a driver that enabled Thunderbolt on my Z170-AR. My steps were...

1) Enable thunderbolt card via Windows
2) update to the latest BIOS 1801, which changed the thunderbolt from Falcon Ridge to Alpine Ridge (I thought that was a hardware difference, not firmware???).
3) use the attached aptiofix, which let it boot. Using usb-via-thunderbolt as well as the LG 34" Thunderbolt display with it.
4) Boot with a device attached (this may or may not have helped)
5) I DID NOT have to kill the AppleThunderboltNHI kext since there is no boot-delay, like other builds.

Good luck! And thanks for all the great info, brumbaer!

Thx for this. It's working on z170-a.

*raises hand* I have a question!
How do I mount the EFI partition on my SSD? I've done every other step except the kexts on SSD. So for me everything works currently except for sound, bluetooth and USB only kind of works. My USB2 drives work on 3 ports but my USB3 drives only work on 2 ports.

my wifi/bluetooth card is this
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L35XSMS/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
with a pci adapter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0144KJOIA/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
Could I assume that bluetooth isn't working because I don't have USB kexts installed?

edit: I got the efi mounted by following this guide
http://themacadmin.com/mounting-the-efi-boot-partition-on-mac-os-x/
now my usb's are (probably) working as they should be
All I have left to fix is sound and bluetooth

another edit: After making these changes I noticed my power saver preferences pane has changed, I no longer have an option to choose when the computer sleeps but other options have been added i.e powernap. Was this suppose to happen? How do I change when my computer sleeps now? o_O

I just got the same wifi/bluetooth card but I did not do anything. It just works after installation. For bluetooth, I use USB1112 connector on the motherboard. You might need to create your own ssdt (See post #125-3 of this thread, thanks VCN), and also you might need to expand 15 ports limit. The instruction should be in this thread. (I don't know where exactly, so I will leave my config.plist)

To mount EFI, USE "EFI Mounter" or "Clover Configurator"

※ Be sure to follow 1st brumbaer's instruction and complete before proceeding anything.

Thank you brumbaer, and people who post in this thread.
Because of you guy's instructions, everything is working now. :)
