@LiveRecords - Glad to hear  I’ll try and remember your fix, if this happens to me. I also see that your sidebar icons are back to normal - I guess you’re all set now
Damn! Nope. I cant get to windows (UEFI) without enabling CSM after bios update. If I enable csm, Mac does not boot :(
(Win7 forces bios to enable CSM and reboot)

@LiveRecords - EDIT: I see you're using Windows 7. Ignore the bit in brackets.

According to these threads, Windows 7 requires CSM to be enabled (looking at post #13 of the ASUS thread, Windows 8 and above have a newer version of UEFI support):
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?97238-Disable-CSM-Boot-Windows-7-x64
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/olivnie/2012/12/20/windows-8-uefi-support/

(I wonder if you can check that your Windows volume is properly UEFI formatted and GPT partitioned?

If you enable CSM, then boot into Windows, can you right-click on the Start Menu and select Disk Management from the menu-list. In Disk Management, my UEFI formatted Windows volume shows up like this (see attached C.png pic).

Can you also right-click on the box to the left of your Windows drive in Disk Management, and select Properties from the menu. Then go to the Volumes tab (see attached drive.png pic). It should give Partition style as "GUID Partition Table (GPT)".

I found this forum thread useful as well: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?83556-Unable-to-Boot-Win10-Install-Drive-With-CSM-Disabled)

@pbryanw My status is in pics. below. I have no GPT win7 part. only UEFI part in front of that disk.
Question is: Why my mac part booted with CSM enabled before BIOS update. :( seems like I have to move to WIN10.

@LiveRecords - So, you recently updated the BIOS on your Ranger VIII, and after that you couldn't boot into macOS with CSM enabled? I was going to recommend you roll-back your BIOS, but I think it's worth having the Spectre mitigations the latest BIOS brings.

Also, on the Ranger VIII, you can set CSM to Auto, Enabled or Disabled. I wonder if setting it to Auto would help? If not, then maybe the only solution might be to upgrade to Windows 10 :roll2:

This thread on ****** has someone who experienced a similar problem, and happened after they upgraded their Graphics Card: https://www.******.com/r/hackintosh/comments/7ndz3h/hackintosh_will_only_boot_with_csm_enabled/

Just read this over on Ars Technica - it may be unwise to update to newly released BIOSes with Intel microcode updates for Spectre (quote from article follows): https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/201...in-quest-to-get-meltdown-and-spectre-patched/
The bad news: Intel has previously warned that the microcode update it issued to provide some processor-based mitigation for some kinds of Spectre attack was causing machines with Haswell and Broadwell processors to reboot. It turns out that the problems are more widespread than previously reported: the chip company is now saying that Ivy Bridge, Sandy Bridge, Skylake, and Kaby Lake systems are affected too.

Intel says that it has reproduced the reboot issues and is working on identifying the root cause. It intends to ship a beta microcode to system builders next week.

What this means is that if you're lucky enough to have a system that is still being supported with firmware updates from its manufacturer—because let's be honest: good luck getting any firmware updates for any consumer PC or motherboard that's more than about 18 months old—you probably shouldn't install the firmware anyway.
I haven't personally experienced any reboot issues since updating my BIOS, but hopefully a newer, issue-free BIOS will be released for the Ranger VIII in the coming weeks, with Intel's fixes for the reboot bug.

can I ask you what setting you are using on your clover installation?
coz I'm experiencing a huge problem with clover that after I update my clover from 4012 to any newer version, nvidia driver start panic, can't get into the system, or there just nothing but windows entry
don't know what to do

@taku1995, please update your profile (personal details) with your Motherboard, CPU and Graphics Card.
If you have a prebuilt computer enter make and model instead of motherboard (Mobo).
The Rules said:
Profiles need to contain at least your primary system to assist others with helping you.

@taku1995 - Apologies for the delay in replying to you. I'm away from home for a week, and home is where my hackintosh is :)

Regarding your Nvidia driver panic - how have you enabled the drivers on your system? Please read this:
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/new-method-for-enabling-nvidia-web-drivers-in-clover.202341/

You might also need to have NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext installed. You can get it from here, then please put in Clover/kexts:
https://github.com/lvs1974/NvidiaGraphicsFixup/releases

How have you installed the Nvidia Graphics Drivers? Make sure you have the latest ones available from here

If you manage to get them working and get lag with your system, uninstall current Nvidia drivers, then use the nVidia-Update script: https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/nvidia-update

Would be useful if we knew your exact configuration too - you can add this to your profile, so we can see it beneath your avatar in the forum. Also, SMBIOS info (which Mac you're using) and which version of macOS you have installed, would be useful too. Thanks.

Thanks for adding this @BreBo  Didn't see this at first, but thread has just updated for me.

ok i'll try, thanks

update:
unfortunately, it doesn't works for me, let say this is not quite the problem I'm facing
I'm rocking mac os 10.11.6 with maximus VIII ranger, using clover r4012. SMBIOS is iMac14,2
My system is up-to-date, as well as nvidia driver.
Everything works fine when clover bootloader was on r4012, but once I update clover(only clover, nothing changed with the system, no update upgrade what so ever), it starts panicking
thank you

Just a heads-up for owners of the Asus Ranger VIII Ranger Motherboard - BIOS version 3802 was released on the 26th April.

This update's release notes include another "Updated Intel CPU microcode" fix, which I'm guessing is newer code for Spectre mitigations. The previous fix in the BIOS 3703 update, may have caused reboots on some PCs:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/spect...intel-replaces-its-buggy-fix-for-skylake-pcs/
(This is based on some speculation on my part, so may not be entirely correct).

With Clover now enabling native NVRAM with the latest BIOSes on this motherboard - it's probably worth upgrading to this new BIOS. It also comes with "Improved system performance" & "Improved DRAM compatibility" fixes:
https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-RANGER/HelpDesk_BIOS/

It's also good to see ASUS still releasing new BIOSes for this motherboard, some two and a half years after it's release.
