just to recap, I found this refurbished machine for $160.00. No graphics card added but it has display port and vga.
I'm just using the display port and I think I might have something to put in if graphics become too unbearable.

El Capitan on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M81 Desktop

There was no sound but the network connection worked.

For now I decided to continue the climb to Sierra just for the latest version of Xcode.

I'm creating the Unibeast drive with Sierra now and I'm going to follow up with my results.

I'm running Unibeast from El Capitan in Safe mode. I think that has something to do with it. I will try again.

if this fails, I will copy the install sierra install files to another machine and use unibeast 7 from there

using another machine (not in safe mode) was successful creating USB via Unibeast 7.1.1 with sierra

Here's what I went with in Unibeast 7.1.1
Legacy boot mode with no optional graphics injected worked in creating a USB.

Now to test it out after copying multibeast for sierra to it

Ok well similar to my El Capitan approach, I used these clover boot args:

1st attempt:
dart=0 nv_disable=1 -x -v

2nd attempt
dart=0 -x -v

verified:
- intel inject
- kernel pm patch
- appleintel cpu pm patch
- apple rtc patch

both boot args yielded the same results.
after seeing the safe mode xxx logging, it gets down to a point where the last line reads:
IOConsole Users: gIO ScreenLockState 3, hs 0, bs 0 , now 0 , sm 0x0

now since P1LGRIM gracefully mentioned Intel HD Graphics 2000 is not supported, I have two options for an alternate graphics card.

1) Install MSI GeForce 8400 GS (1GB ddr3 pci-x16)

2) Remove ATI/AMD Radeon HD5450
**I dont have that exact same heat sink on the 5450

In order to make things fit in the case, I wonder if I can just disconnect the vga ribbon and chop off that vga port from the metal plate.

ok after seeing this success here in yosemite https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/evga-geforce-8400-gs-yosemite-10-10.170032/

his semi-success here https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...rce-8400-gs-working-on-sierra-10-12-1.215976/

his failures here https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/ati-hd5450-graphics-card.84579/

recalling my heartbreak with yosemite years ago with my 5450

and a quick search on here returned many problems with the 5450

it looks like I should try the GeForce 8400GS first using these args:
GraphicsEnabler=Yes PCIRootUID=1

if that fails I will then try

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...for-macos-sierra-10-12-4-378-05-05-05.218005/

if that fails I will then try the ATI radeon 5450 kext injection method mentioned here https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-enabling-ati-radeon-hd-5450.180817/

ok so when I updated the bootargs to
dart=0 GraphicsEnabler=Yes PCIRootUID=1

I got a reboot after halfway through the black apple screen's progress bar

then i tried using the same unibeast but the default args
dart=0 nv_disabled=1 (i think)

it booted into the installer so its chugging along now

I wonder if its because the Unibeast drive I used for Sierra didn't have the special Nvidia options checked in?
