Comments

Like indicated at the top, I'm sharing this build to show people that it goes really well with Sierra. This build has been made in 2011, but still works like a charm. I wanted to share my experience, because it hasn't been easy to find out if things will run or not.

I currently have a dual boot with OSX and Windows (which I rarely use anymore).
Before I was running OS X 10.8.6, so I really needed to update... Before starting that, I duplicated my OS X partition to a backup partition using Carbon Copy Cloner, so I could return to that whenever things would go wrong.

Installation notes
I followed this guide: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...ierra-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.200564/ but I'll explain my progress anyway:
  1. Created UnBeast install USB
Note: I used the Legacy Clover bootloader, not UEFI, because I couldn't get that to work. I think my motherboard should support it, but I couldn't really figure it out, so Legacy works fine. (I was running Chimera before, so little difference for me there)
  2. Formatted SSD using the installer
Note: I had to be a bit creative here as the setup does not support PS2 keyboards, and I could figure out how to add VoodooPS2 to the installer. Luckily, the setup is easy to go through using the mouse, so that went well.
  3. Install OS X on SSD
  4. Reboot using USB
  5. Import settings from OS X partition clone (saves me the whole setup)
  6. Reboot using USB
  7. Boot into OS X
  8. Run UniBeast:
    - Install Legacy bootloader
    - Additional kexts: none (the ALC289 kext doesn't work for my setup)
    - Additional options: Inject nVidia
Note: At this moment, the nVidia graphics card is disabled, because the bootloader starts with nv_disable=1. This is NOT set by default on the new bootloader, so if you would like to reboot now, you need to set that flag. (Its not required if you follow the rest of my steps, as I add the right kext there)
  9. Install the following kexts:
    NVDAStartup
    https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/solved-nvidia-geforce-gtx-260-sierra.202912/page-4#post-1338199
VoodooHDA 2.8.8 (if you hear loud static noise, you should turn down the Input gain in the preferences)
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/voodoohda/
    VoodooPS2 2016-1208
    https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-Voodoo-PS2-Controller
  10. That's it! Reboot and it works like a charm!

It took me quite a while to figure out how to get my audio working, but eventually VoodooHDA helped me out.
I tried a lot:
-Codec Commander
-patched AppleALC by vit9696
-Toledas HDA patch
-Clover ALC
But all without success...
Then I read about VoodooHDA, and it worked immediately!

Warning:
DO NOT install the nVidia WEB drivers, they made my setup get kernel panics, even when I enabled Clover to use nVidia WEB drivers

yesterday I updated to Sierra 10.12.2
1、depart 8g from mac OSX deparment, because UnBeast didn't work well with my USB disk, and I found that UnBeast could find my SSD department, luckly it worked well and Created installer on my local SSD disk.
2、reboot ,and I selected to boot from the installer on my local SSD disk, depart 60g from my MAC OSX deparment (120G before),then installed the OSX.
3、now the Sierra 10.12.2 is working well, just like OSX 10.11.6, but NEC USB 3.0 still doesn't work.

Now I return back the OSX to 10.9.5,all work fine include the NEC USB 3. With GenericUSBXHCI.kext , this driver is just for below OSX 10.10.
