Here is my new build, I wanted something fast enough for everyday use (Safari, iPhoto, iTunes, SublimeText, Terminal, Ableton, VLC) and being able to play some video games without drawing too much watts (under windows).

After some research on GPUs and ended up with this chart :

Much disparities, and apparently not much efforts put into efficiency.
But I settled on a 750 Ti as the price is also to be taken into consideration.

On the CPU side it's much easier as Intel seems to have been working hard on power consumption for a while now.

Having an 8 core mac at work I know that having lots of cores does not necessarily means more comfort unless your applications are heavily optimized for multi-CPUs. So, I looked for something fast per thread, and at a decent price.
Finally choosing the i3 4370. This i3 customac feels more responsive (except when heavily loaded) than the MacPro at work (which does not support S-ATA 3). Photoshop CS4 startup on the customac

BIOS/UEFI

Nothing special

I am glad to see another GTX 750 Ti user as this nVidia card is great card for mid range computer systems.

BTW, your memory link is incorrect - it links to laptop memory.

I agree! Everything about this card is cool, decent performance, decent pricing, compact, quiet, and high efficiency.

Thanks, I fixed the link ;)

Update with the Dell U3415W 3440x1400

IMG_0061.jpg

And a 4 Ghz overclock (stock voltage) on the i3 (105.2 Mhz on the bus, 16x multiplier on the RAM), now reaching 3605 points per thread on Geekbench same as an i7 4790 non-K. Doesn't seem to increase power consumption.

When he said audio and Ethernet native by that you meant no MultiBeast driver were needed, just plug and use?

Whats the power consumption at the wall socket?

I have a Intel 3770K running with Intel onboard graphics 16GB of RAM and 2 120GB SSD. That system idles at 28w measured at the wall socket.

anakin059 :
Yes, Apple USB to ethernet is supported without any specific kext.
External USB DAC are also supported without any specific kext.

niclasc :
I'll have to measure at the wall socket to give a precise wattage.
