I'm just wondering if this is possible without having to reinstall Snow Leopard.

Re: Nvidia 9800GT to ATi HD 5850: how?

I was thinking I could start up multibeast and install the ATI Kext files for the 5800 series but I believe that iBoot/Chameleon would have to updated for the ATI card as well?

I would of thought somebody would have upgraded their video card on a hackintosh... :)

You don't have to reinstall. Someone posted how they did it.

Yep! You are correct :) I found it with a little help of surfing through the threads.

So I just ran the lastest version of Multibeast in Snow Leopard and went to Advance Options > Graphics Enabler > ATY_Init Vervet (selected that)

Then I went to Advance options > com.apple.boot.plist > and selected "32-bit Graphics Enabler=No"

Restarted the computer with the new video card plugged in and Success!! :)

This is what I'm planning also.
Just need to raise some funds.

I am currently using a Radeon HD 4870 that works like a dream but I want to replace it with the 5850 if possible.

If I understand correctly I would do the installation as described above with my old card in place then shotdown and swap out the cards...correct?

Thanks

Correct :)

It worked (sort of) but I only have one resolution 1024 x 768.

The device info is:

ATI Radeon HD 5850:

Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 5850
Type: GPU
Bus: PCIe
Slot: Slot-1
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x6899
Revision ID: 0x0000
ROM Revision: 113-B7710C-176
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.318
Displays:
Display:
Resolution: 1024 x 768
Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Display Connector:

The vram is wrong.
Perhaps I need to change the Device ID?

Is there a method that works in 64bit?

Do you have the latest update from apple for the graphics?

The Graphics update worked for 32 bit.

Thanks for that feedback.

I removed the 32 bit boot from the boot.plist and it failed.

I figured it would.

Is there any solution yet for 64 bit?
