I recently got my new MOTU 16a to work with my 2012 Hackintosh build via Thunderbolt. Here is the trick:
Go to BIOS and DISABLE the Wake from Thunderbolt Devices option.
Then, when starting computer (EVERY TIME):
1. Hit delete to enter BIOS (I am using BIOS 11).
2. Plug the Thunderbolt cable into the MOTU interface and Hackintosh via the Thunderbolt port closest to the multicolored audio inputs.
3. Turn on MOTU 16a.
4. Exit BIOS without saving.
Voila!
You now have an awesome Thunderbolt enabled interface working with your Hackintosh. This took me forever to figure out.
