Comments

I was looking for an alternative for my 2009 Mac Pro. It was fairly upgraded (6-Core Xeon, 48GB RAM, NVMe SSD, RX570) but didn't served me that well in tasks like Final Cut Pro. I didn't want to buy a new Intel Mac due ARM is coming. So I decided to build a Custom Mac fo bridge the time to the 2. or 3. generation of ARM Macs.

I liked the idea of a small footprint System an went for ITX. I'm using an 8-Core i7 with integrated graphics for QuickSync capability. The RX5600 is a bit overpowered for my workloads, but I got a good deal on it so it was a steal.

I used OpenCore as the boot loader, and the system works quite well. Performance is good, acoustics are quiet and stability is also nice.

There is a build guide on YouTube, but be warned: It's in German and doesn't go deeper in the macOS installation process:
Comet Lake Hackintosh im ITX Format - Intel Core i7-10700K & RX5600XT auf macOS Catalina

Installation Notes

I used OpenCore and these kexts:
AppleALC
FakePCIID_Intel_HDMI_Audio
FakePCIID_Intel_I225-V
IntelMausi
Lilu
LucyRTL8125Ethernet
SMCProcessor
USBMap
VirtualSMC
WhateverGreen
XHCI-unspported

And this SSDTs:
SSDT-AWAC
SSDT-EC-USBX
SSDT-HPET
SSDT-PLUG

BIOS
Important is to enable XHCI Handoff. (This cost me a fair amount of time to figure out.)
Rest is the typical Custom Mac BIOS Config (VT Off, SecureBoot Off etc. etc.)

Does not work:
HDCP Content (including iTunes/AppleTV)
WiFi
Integrated Bluetooth (using a dongle instead)
USB2.0 Ports (to come under 15 in total)

Works:
As far as I know, everything else...

Hi,

as far as I know you can't replace the WiFi card.
It seems to be integrated instead of beeing an m.2 card...

Are you sure? in product manual it said that is attached in M2 slot. I think that this card is replaceable.

Hello! You can enable WiFi with https://github.com/OpenIntelWireless/itlwm
I could install it and connected to my home WiFi with HeliPort app. It seems have not best speed but I can get 30Mbps and it is a good result for free, I think.

You can try this config settings for Big Sur

Hi! Do you know if the wireless card of that board can be replaced by a supported one?
The stock wireless card works fine in my Z490M-ITX/ac using https://github.com/OpenIntelWireless/itlwm No need to replace it! :)

Similarly Bluetooth is working fine for me, I have IntelBluetoothInjector.kext and IntelBluetoothFirmware.kext in my EFI > OC > Kexts

In fact this is the most success I've ever had with stock motherboard hardware in 10 years of Hackintoshing!. Everything works.

The bad news is that I'm only getting .11n speeds with my AX200/BT PCIe card. The wireless kexts need to improve which should happen over the couple of months.

My BT works fine, too. It's just the WiFi is too slow.

Nice build,

Do you experience any coil whine with that MoBo or I'm the only one lucky?
