I had success with following this guide. Onto the Optiplex 990 DT model. Previously had Ubuntu 16.04, within which I gotten a Buffalo Wireless - G PCI card to work successfully. But sadly not within H. Sierra. While linux was running, the video card didn't report very specifically what kind it was except to say that it was a 5/6/7XXX radeon. Knowing that ATi made radeon, I used the ATi drivers. Only one non-proportional resolution is available sadly, and no sound yet. But hey, I'm happy it's running.

If I'm lucky I can:

• Find a way to get the Buffalo Wireless - G PCI card to work
• Find a way to get the sound to work

and...

• Find a way to have a choice of booting into Mac OS or Linux OS. Hopefully.

Thank you for this guide!

PS, if anyone can point me in the right direction for the above wish list, drop me a line, and thank you in advance!
PPS: It was H. Sierra 10.13.2 version.

@mikemac27, please update your profile (personal details) with your Motherboard, CPU and Graphics Card.
If you have a prebuilt computer enter make and model instead of motherboard (Mobo).

I was wondering if you have added any 3rd party cards to enable usb 3.0 on the Optiplex 990.

The display quality is so-so, noticeable artifacts within Safari. The transparency overlay effects when using the "search within a page" function just turns Safari pages black except upon the search's found instances. As well as blocky Tab titles.

Since this is my 1st build, and not having seen any others in person, I wonder if others have experienced this.

On that topic of video cards, can any comment on the cards that Author mentions?

Thank you kindly for sharing.

Ps,

The Optiplex 990 DT is a low profile style of Case Chassis, so my search for a better card will have to be a Low Profile model.
