[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Let's try this next, in Terminal:
Bash:
pmset -g log | grep -e "Sleep.*due to" -e "Wake.*due to"
Here you go

Lots waking for RTC/Maintenance, but my power settings say it should not wake on its own:

Are you sure you’re using iMac7,1?
Hi Casey, currently using Mac Pro 7,1 . Sorry, it was a bit late trying to figure everything out. Let me know if you’d like to review my EFI folder.

Here you go
What is the problem once again?
  • Does the computer go to sleep when the idle period times out?
  • Or does it try to go to sleep, but wakes up immediately?
The sleep log currently shows normal behavior even though Power Nap has been disabled (but we can worry about that later).

We can try:
Bash:
pmset -g
sudo pmset -a tcpkeepalive 0
sudo pmset -a proximitywake 0
The first statement pmset -g will show current settings. The next two will disable tcpkeepalive and proximitywake. These two changes can be undone by setting the values back to 1.

No reboot needed after making these changes.

The problem is that when (configured) idle time elapses, the display goes blank, but the computer never sleeps.
Note: It will sleep properly (display + seemingly power off) if manually triggered by the apple menu.

I've disabled both, but disabling keep alive gave me this warning:

Warning: This option disables TCP Keep Alive mechanism when sytem is sleeping. This will result in some critical features like 'Find My Mac' not to function properly.

Are there any other consequences of disabling TCP Keep Alive?

The sleep log shows normal sleep/wake behavior. During the period of time covered in that log, did the computer actually sleep (fans turned off)? Or was the computer placed into sleep manually from the Apple menu?

Any activity that requires network access during sleep will be disabled. Nothing to worry about at this time because we just want to isolate factors.

Some questions and comments:
  • How much free space is left on the 970 EVO Plus?
  • How long is the boot time from OpenCore Picker --> to --> macOS Login Screen appearing?
  • Is the boot time always this long, or does it vary significantly from boot to boot?
  • I would suggest waiting a couple of days to see if the problem corrects itself.

Free space: 1.62TB out of 2TB is available.
Time from OC to Login: 1 minute 57 seconds

The boot time has been about this long since upgrading to Monterey, but I have only had it running for a day..
It was long with Big Sur, but I think it is over twice as long with Monterey.

Anyone know what the current state of the Samsung 970 EVO Plus is?
I have macOS running on one (bought before I saw the warning :/)
It is running the newest firmware, and macOS installed on it just fine, but the boot time is kinda long (I guess its doing TRIM stuff?), and since Monterey was installed the boot time is even longer.

Anything I can do about that outside of chucking the 970 Pro?

Someone recently replaced their Samsung with a WD SN 550 and the boot time seemed to return to normal (15-20 seconds), but a day later it went back to over a minute.

My recommendation is to avoid both (a) Samsung and (b) WD NVMe SSDs. Alternatives are:
  • Sabrent Rocket
  • Silicon Power
  • ADATA SX series
  • Crucial

Can't really remember on previous dates, but last night (about 1AM) I went to bed and manually set it to sleep.
Woke up this morning (around 8AM) and it was powered on and awake, though the display was off.

Either someone bumped on the keyboard (my kids, or the cleaning lady), or it woke up on its own.
Right now logs for today are:

Yeah, I have windows installed on a 2TB Inland premium with a phison controller.
Maybe Ill move my macOS install over there and reinstall Windows on this samsung.
