It’s certainly worth trying. However for @qthegaijin the problem was a total shutdown of USB ports, which was solved by enabling this checkbox.
Have you guys tried this on your builds yet? I am curious to see what changes you observe (if any). Main thing I noticed was now all my USB devices are listed out during verbose boot when it enumerates the USB. I have also noticed improved times for devices to mount, only by a small margin.

Yes, I have 128GB of 2666MHz but haven't done any experimentation with the test BIOS.
Very cool! Is this with VT-d enabled and AppleVTD appearing in IOReg? WiFi and Ethernet still work with 128GB RAM?

Which 32GB module are you using?

Update on Gigabyte Z490 Vision D:

With one 16GB DIMM (in A2) there are no side-effects with AppleVTD. Everything works.

These configurations were also tested, but they result in WiFi and Ethernet not connecting:
  • 16GB by 2
  • 16GB by 3
  • 16GB by 4
  • 16GB by 2 and 8GB by 2
Hello @CaseySJ

have you tried those DDR4 memory combinations with iMac20,1 SMBIOS ? It would interesting to have a Mac model correlation :)

Could you please check if you ram is in this Z390 Designare RAM compatibility official list

"2 DIMM: Supports one pair of modules inserted into the same color slots as one pair of Dual-channel memory configuration. Install the modules into DDR4_A2, DDR4_B2 for better compatibility."

I have one of models in the inner red box. Will get the exact part number. My primary Z390 Designare has four 8GB modules (all G.Skill).
I have the following 8GB G.Skill modules in my primary Z390 Designare:
  • F4-3200C16D-16GTZRX
This specific one is not on the list.

I just tried the following on Z490 Vision D:
  • Four 8GB G.Skill 3200MHz DIMMs taken from the primary Z390 Designare
    • WiFi and Ethernet do not work
  • Two 8GB G.Skill 3200MHz DIMMs (same ones) in A2/B2 slots
    • Everything works
  • Four 8GB TeamForce 3200MHz (Intel) DIMMs (TF1D48G3200HC16CBK)
    • WiFi and Ethernet do not work
Will turn off iCloud and switch to iMac20,1 soon...

Noooooooooooooooo!! (Should it matter?)

Update: It does not matter. Just tried a different set of four 8GB DIMMs, this time from TeamForce (Team Group). These are for Intel systems. Part number: TF1D48G3200HC16CBK. These were installed in the Asus X99 Deluxe II, which has no side effects from enabling AppleVTD. But on the Z490 Vision D, WiFi and Ethernet do not work with this configuration.

  1. Yes, VT-d is enabled in the BIOS
  2. No, AppleVTD doesn't show in IOReg.

  3. WiFi and Ethernet are working perfectly (I use both)
  4. Memory is the HyperX Fury RGB 128GB 2666MHz DDR4 CL16 DIMM (Kit of 4) HX426C16FB3AK4/128 with XMP off
  5. 1624816725614.png
  6. I'm running the F9i Official BIOS
@CaseySJ - Happy to do some experimenting. Where do I start?

Because AppleVTD does not appear, it means these results are not valid for this experiment! :)

If you see the top section of Experiment Update #3, it lists the exact changes that need to be made in order to enable AppleVTD. Then if WiFi and Ethernet can still connect please let us know. That would be an important data point.

I'm heading out with the family for the pool, but will test when I get back and let you know the results.
