Not sure if this VT-d business is only for those with modified TB firmware, but tried anyway. No WiFi/Ethernet for me with:

  • DisableIOMapper off and dart=0 removed.
  • VT-d enabled in bios.
  • 4x16GB ram @2666 MHz (can't do 3000 because usb disks get ejected during sleep).
For fun I tried without XMP too but same result.
If you see “Experiment Update #3” you’ll find that so far only (a) 8GB x 2, (b) 8GB x 2 and 4GB x 1, and (c) possibly 16GB x 1 have no side effects.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think all the successful builds have been using OpenCore and not Clover....
Correct. Clover does not work — at least I haven’t found a way. By now we should all be switching to OpenCore.

Yep! This is one reason I'm trying to get this going on my #2 build (Z370) as well; to see if this can be propagated down, so to speak. FWIW, I bought Corsair LPX 2666MHz RAM so that I could run the "native" im/iMp RAM speed without having to count on XMP. Note that this is Mojave.
Wow! So a Z390 Designare with 64GB of native 2666MHz memory has no side effects with AppleVTD!
  • Is XMP Profile 1 disabled?
  • Which version of BIOS is installed?
Will add your name and to “Experiment Update #3”.

Does anyone else have native 2666MHz memory??

From OpenCore manual, disableiomapper section :
Note 2: Misconfigured IOMMU in the firmware may result in broken devices such as Ethernet or Wi-Fi adapters. For instance, an Ethernet adapter may cycle in link-up link-down state infinitely and a Wi-Fi adapter may fail to discover networks. Gigabyte is one of the most common OEMs with these issues.

Just to be clear, is your memory natively spec’d at 3000MHz, but you’ve disabled XMP and down-clocked it to 2666MHz?

Yes because I tried down-clocking without success.
Could you please check if you ram is in this Z390 Designare RAM compatibility official list

"2 DIMM: Supports one pair of modules inserted into the same color slots as one pair of Dual-channel memory configuration. Install the modules into DDR4_A2, DDR4_B2 for better compatibility."

I have one of models in the inner red box. Will get the exact part number. My primary Z390 Designare has four 8GB modules (all G.Skill).

Might the troubles you all are facing have anything to do with the BIOS version?

I haven’t tried any custom BIOSes, but I can confirm that I use VT-d with 4 8GB DIMMs with XMP on Z490 Vision D, and I don’t have any problems with the f5 BIOS.

But I had major problems with f20 and XMP on. USB disks were regularly being ejected during sleep. I downclocked the memory from 3200 to 2666, and that tended to help, but it wasn’t 100 percent foolproof.

I wonder if there’s a particular BIOS version you all should use?
