Thank you for your reply @CaseySJ.

I did as you wrote (just added Rehabman’s VoodooPS2Controller.kext for my “no-usb” keyboard).
At first boot after changing CLOVER folder to yours, on the Clover screen there was no “Boot macOS Install from Mojave” option on my SSD so I choosed “Boot macOS Install Prebooter from Preboot “. The result was exact the same as before (like on my photo with “error: loading kernel cache (0xe), error: aborted returned from boot.efi was error, press any key”). So I pressed a key and after few seconds was on the BIOS boot menu, where I choosed my USB. This time Clover boot menu showed not 5 but 6 options with Boot macOS Install from Mojave on my SSD! I choosed this of course and installation started. (Black screen with white Apple logo and progress bar with info that is about 40 minutes to complete).
The progress bar and info about time were going much faster as it claimed and after couple of minutes installation has rebooted. Than F12, USB choice and… Clover screen without option Boot macOS Install from Mojave on my SSD… Choosing “Boot macOS Install Prebooter from Preboot” resulted the same as at the beginning of this chapter of my story…
The only difference that I noticed was in the “final” error info. I mean:
Before Clover folder change to yours, the sequence:
1. F12
2. USB choice
3. Clover (no "Boot macOS Install from Mojave” option on SSD)
4. "Boot macOS Install Prebooter from Preboot" choice
5. error: loading kernel cache (0xe), error: aborted returned from boot.efi was error, press any key
6. Bios menu
7. F12
ended with the the error message as on pic nr 2.

After change to your Clover folder, this sequence ended with info as on pic nr 3.

Today I will try “the USB disk -> Boot Install macOS from macOS Install” method. Could it give different result than taking me to the main install Mojave screen (with disk utility, recovery, Mojave install options) ?

Hi,@CaseySJ.
I tested the firmware of X99 Designare-EX that you helped me to modify today. It was very unsatisfactory. After flashing, the Thunderbolt failed. I would like to ask if you are still studying the use of SSDT to activate the Thunderbolt bus?

Might anyone be able to describe or help me with the optimal set-up for the below build? Having some difficulty booting macOS with LG Ultrafine 5K and a bit unsure if errors are hardware or software related.

Current build
Z390 Designare
i7-8086K
Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 (HDMI monitor working)
Alpine Ridge (2 mDP to DP connected to the RX 580 and USB-C from Alpine Ridge connected to LG Ultrafine 5K)
LG Ultrafine 5K (displaying on Windows with above set-up)

SMBIOS iMacPro1,1
macOS Catalina 10.15.5 - Clover r5118

Bootflags used: keepsyms=1, dart=0, debug=0x100, darkwake=0, -v, slide=1

Kexts used: WhateverGreen.kext, Lilu.kext, FakeSMC.kext, AppleALC.kext, IntelMausiEthernet.kext

Problems with current build
  • Boots to black screen on macOS both SMBIOS iMacPro1,1 and iMac18,3
    • When I do VNC onto black screen it doesn't detect the Ultrafine 5K display properly just says the display is iMac and the resolution is 1280x720
  • Doesn't shut down or restart properly, just hangs
What I've tried so far
  • Installing TB3 driver and firmware on Windows side, display working on Windows
  • Disabled Internal Graphics in BIOS settings
  • Disabled Discrete Thunderbolt(TM) Support in BIOS settings - it caused POST issues, worked "better" with it Enabled
Questions
  • Is it the correct set-up to have 2 mDP cables going from my Alpine Ridge to my RX580 DPs and then a USB-C from the Alpine Ridge connected to the LG Ultrafine 5K display? (not currently using Motherboard's USB-C DP or USB-C)
  • Are the attached current BIOS settings the correct for working thunderbolt support with the hardware?
  • I've not that familiar with any ACPI patches or SSDTs fixes that are required. Are there any I need to add to my EFI folder, I've read that memory fixes could be a potential route in the right direction?

Hello Everyone!

Quick question on upgrading to 10.15.5. I've seen a number of discussions on RadeonBoost.

Since I'm running "RadeonBoost-v1-4+Vega.kext" right now, can I still use it after the upgrade or does anyone know if v1.6

will now work with Vega cards?

Thanks!
Lam
The kext doesn't support vega cards

That’s interesting. I have the Nitro 5700xt and I’m getting around 52000 with GeekBench 5 for Metal. I also have the 5700XT 50 Anniversary and scoring pretty much the same. This should be higher clocks than normal.

Running 10.15.4

I’m jealous now :)) how did you get that?

Also is this via eGPU or directly installed?
My 5700XT is inside the machine; I'm on 10.15.5; on Designare BIOS 9g and on the Radeon Performance Enhanced SSDT from here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/amd-radeon-performance-enhanced-ssdt.296555/page-86#post-2130018

Hey @CaseySJ - apologies if this has been asked/answered already, but in light of your new Z490 build, are you still going to be updating your Z390 build with updates, guides etc, and of course hopefully also continuing to answer any Hackintosh related questions pertaining to the Z390 that users may have (as in, any bugs we may find as we update etc)?

I'm sure I speak for others also when I say this guide has been amazing. Thanks!

Hello @hamzab,

I'll continue to support the Z390 Designare. After all, I have two of them so I still have a vested interest in the upkeep of this thread.
