Yes it's set to Type 255 and used to exhibit no sleep problems in earlier incarnations of macOS. Apple modified the USB 2.0 driver last year (if memory serves) as a result of problems plaguing real Macs. Those modifications certainly benefited my Gigabyte B550 Vision D in which sleep/wake finally works flawlessly with the on-board USB 2.0 hub.
By the way, with this splitter, it does not sleep on more than one system Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur, and it does not matter the OpenCore or Clover bootloader. There are no problems on the Windows system. But I noticed a feature when the computer works on Windows for a long time, as if the USB F is reconnecting, that is, as if I take out the connector from USB F and insert it back.

Apologies if this has already been answered. I think that, since updating past OC 0.6.5 on Big Sur, I've run into some power issues. Not sure if its hardware or software. But now when I shutdown, reboot or cold start my machine, it will just try to power on or power down but just go around in little circles where the PSU just clicks off and on. But it never fully shuts down or starts up. It doesn't happen every time, and the solution is to power cycle the PSU or pull its plug out for about 20 seconds, then try again.

Anyone else had this issue lately?

I need HELP. I want replace clover with OpenCore. I followed the guide, and, after I remove all hackintosh kexts, my build won't boot any more.

Hello @Didoofficial,

Some questions/suggestions:
  • Have you created a USB install disk with OpenCore?
  • When you boot from this disk, do you see the OpenCore Picker GUI?
  • If so, press and release CMD-V (to enable Verbose mode).
  • Then select the Mojave disk.
  • You will see a lot of boot log messages on screen.
  • When the boot process freezes, let us know what you see.
    • You may take a photo with smart phone, but (a) remove EXIF location information and (b) resize the image to 1280 or 1400 pixels to reduce file size.

Interesting. In my X570 Taichi AMD Ryzentosh, I have a 1-to-4 USB splitter based on the same Genesys Logic GL850G (USB 2.0 hub controller) and sleep also fails when that splitter is connected and populated. It seems macOS now has a problem with this chip.

I have just ordered a NZXT USB 2.0 internal hub. Will see if it makes any difference.

I have an older version of the NZXT USB 2.0 hub and haven't had any real issues with sleep other than it takes a minute or two for the machine to actually go to sleep. Currently, I have my Fenvi FV-T919, NZXT AIO, and RGB controller plugged into the USB hub.

@Didoofficial,
  • Which version of BIOS are you running on your Z390 Designare? F9i or F9h?
  • Have you disabled CFG-Lock from Boot section of BIOS Setup?

Okay. Looking at the specs of the Z390 Designare, all USB ports are Intel. I take it your GL850G is attached to an internal header which is USB2, not the USB3.1 one. Therefore that USB port is the root node and the one macOS interacts with. Sleep can be affected by polling or power draw. Polling is successfully defeated by the UsbConnector type, but as I'm guessing the GL850G is bus powered, perhaps (and I don't have one to test here) the chip itself has fluctuating power demands. If it does all it does on USB2 fuel, peaks and troughs are going to be more noticeable and have an effect.

As you say, I'm curious too ...
Unfortunately the NZXT USB 2.0 Hub (Generation 3 hub) is not recognized by macOS Big Sur.
  • Connect to X570 Taichi --> not recognized
  • Connect to B550 Vision D --> not recognized
Will check under Windows and update this post (to make sure the unit itself is not defective).

Update: Not recognized in Windows either. Windows reports that the device is malfunctioning. Will get it replaced.

Might be your PSU. I've been through a similar power issue and it took me quite some time to nail it down to a faulty PSU. If you have a spare one try that. Hope it helps.
