@CaseySJ
I'm on Opencore .6.5, is this the one you are referring to? I also don't have a WiFi/BT card installed, I'm only using the standard one built into the Designare MB. So what should I do?
Please do the following:
  • Mount EFI Partition of macOS SSD
  • Go to the OC/ACPI folder
  • Select all SSDTs in that folder using Finder, and select File --> Compress
  • Post the ZIP file

Unfortunately there's no mention of refresh rate in the log. There are many reasons why we strongly recommend AMD GPUs and ask users to avoid using iGPU to drive a display monitor.

Nevertheless, please describe what you mean by this:

  • At "full 4K" the UI is smooth?
  • At a different scaled setting, the UI starts to lag?
    • If so, which scaled settings cause the lag? You can post screenshot.
I have Dell U2718Q max screen res 3840 x 2160. As you know OS has 5 pre-ready res options. All others were laggy except 3840 x 2160.

But I made a little search and this looks like a known issue on real macs. A lot of Mac Mini 8,1 and 16" Macbook users complain about this issue. Especially Mini users, cause they have only UHD 630 on their system. When they set max res no problem but when they are changed the res lags starting.

Note; I sold my RX560 for new AMD GPU's, I am using this temporarily.

Ah yes, OpenCore Configurator has been updated once again, so now it only supports 0.6.5 Release and 0.6.6 Development versions. We should set it to 0.6.5 Release.

Anyway, please try the attached EFI folder. Remember to press F12 at the Gigabyte Splash Screen to open the BIOS Boot Menu. Then select the USB install disk from that menu. OpenCore Picker should appear on screen.

If it still fails to appear, please let me know.
@CaseySJ Apologies for the late update, been a busy week and couldn't get to tinkering with my Hack until today. Anyway, just want to say thanks again for all your help with getting macOS installed! What did you do to my EFI settings so I can get it to finally install macOS after my attempts failed?

Still running tests but wanted to share the success so far as well as a snag I ran across along the way.

Initially ran into this error prior to install.

Some benchmarks.

Temps under a load in Cinebench. I know the 9900k is a hot chip but I decided not to water cool and go with a big air cooler, using a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4. Definitely running hotter than I expected, but this was about 4 multi-core tests in.

Just want to say thanks again to everyone in this community for all your help an insight in Hackintoshing! Really looking forward to using this machine for the next few years.

Wanted to add a couple things about my build.

Haven't tried wake from sleep yet and just shutting down when I'm not using it. But I did notice that at some startups, the graphics won't display properly. I'm running a 4k UHD (3840x2160) display and it will sometimes startup displaying some lower resolution, like 720 or 1080. After a restart or two, it will go back to the correct resolution. Don't know what causes this but restarting to solve it isn't a huge issue.

I also need to install Mojave on the other NVMe drive I have installed because I have some apps that won't run under Big Sur. Should I just follow the same process by making a Mojave installer and use the same Open Core 0.6.5 EFI folder that I used to install Big Sur or do I need to do something different?

Let's fix one problem at a time, starting with the update to OpenCore 0.6.5.

Please note that I do not recommend using the OpenIntelWireless drivers at this time. They are okay for temporary use, and for beta testing purposes (to provide feedback to the developers). But if you choose to use them on a daily basis, I cannot provide technical support for them.

Here is the file you asked for issue related to USB and Bluetooth and Thunderbolt port issues.

This is the first thing I thought of but it didn't help. I would get a low res display at the Open Core boot screen. After selecting, it would continue to be low res unless I restarted.

Try EasyRes from the AppStore.

I thought I was prepared... I wasn't prepared
My RX 580 died, and I can't get into Big Sur or boot into Mojave using OC from my SSD or any of my USB or CCC backups. I was able to get in to Mojave using my last Clover boot USB. This brings up the following questions:
  • Can I easily get back in Big Sur or should I just reinstall from scratch?
  • Should I do something different with my CCC backups?
  • Most importantly, what should I replace the RX 580 with (the lag is real on Mojave!)?
