Hey there @CaseySJ -and maybe @Stork can weigh-in on this:

If I have a binned i9 9900KS that has core-sync ability via its own accord and the BIOS setting, do I still need the Contents/MacOS/CpuTscSync kext?

Also, I have a question about a conflict for this dGPU-only setup in relation to the Dortania guide under NVRAM<Add (GPU-Specific boot-args)< "agdpmod=pikera: Used for disabling boardID on Navi GPUs(RX 5000 series), without this you'll get a black screen. Don't use if you don't have Navi, i.e., Polaris and Vega cards shouldn't use this."

What say you? PS, FWIW, I'm still using shikigva=128 for my setup that you see on the left.

Well, I tuned up a new OC 0.6.4 AMD dgpu folder, and it seems that it is no longer quite compatible with Mojave and Thunderbolt-connected UAD audio devices. Meanwhile, I've reverted to 0.6.3.

Long Shot: Is there anyone in the Los Angeles area who successfully (and confidently) flashed their Thunderbolt firmware who might be willing to help me do the same on my machine? I believe this is the only way to get Antelope Audio interfaces to work via TB since their driver relies on the Thunderbolt Bus. A bit out of my depth on that process.

Unfortunately Antelope Audio devices will not work under Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur with or without flashed Thunderbolt firmware. On a Hackintosh, they will only work under High Sierra.

** OpenCore 0.6.4 EFI for Designare Z390 **
Supports Mojave, Catalina, and Big Sur
Please do not quote this post in its entirely. Use a link instead.

Requires OpenCore Configurator 2.18.1.0 or Newer
(this version has not yet been released so use HackinDROM as described below)

The formal release of OpenCore 0.6.4 has arrived, along with an update of VirtualSMC, Lilu, WhateverGreen, and AppleALC.

This EFI contains the following changes:

Bootloader / Kexts:
All of the items listed below are official builds.
  • OpenCore 0.6.4
  • VirtualSMC 1.1.9
  • Lilu 1.5.0
  • WhateverGreen 1.4.5
  • AppleALC 1.5.5

CaseySJ,

Thanks for this speedy OC 0.6.4 EFI! I went through it and tailored for my build and it's working perfectly.
Quick question: Why are there two different Kexts for USBInjectAll? (USBInjectAll-071.kext & USBInjectAll-076.kext)
Do we need them both? Is RehabMan's old kext retired at this point?

Thanks Again for all your hard work.

Good question:
  • USBInjectAll 0.7.1 is built with an older macOS/Xcode framework such that the binary executable file is compatible with Mojave, Catalina, and Big Sur. However, it does not support iMac20,1 and iMac20,2.
  • USBInjectAll 0.7.6 is built with the latest macOS/Xcode framework and it supports iMac20,1 and iMac20,2. But the binary executable file is incompatible with Mojave. It will work with Catalina and Big Sur.
The config.plist therefore injects 0.7.1 automatically for Mojave, and 0.7.6 for Catalina and newer.

It's not necessary to delete the standard Thunderbolt SSDT. Instead, just disable it in config.plist --> ACPI section and add an entry for your own custom Thunderbolt SSDT.

Because OpenCore Configurator does not support 0.6.4 Release version at this time, please use ProperTree, BBEdit, or PlistPro to make the change manually.

Alternatively, just rename your custom Thunderbolt SSDT to SSDT-TB3-HackinDROM.aml and copy it into the OC/ACPI folder (replace the one that is already there). Then you don't have to modify the new 0.6.4 config.plist at all.

Since I am using the Xtreme Aorus not Designaire, which config file should I use in the HackinDROM pull down menu. I know I select my working 0.6.3 from my working USB but does it matter which default I use? I have two machines working now on 0.6.3 and would like to not break either one. I have backups and a separate USB for each build as one is the older Z170-UD5 TH. Just looking for a streamlined process to upgrade monthly. TIA

Hi @CaseySJ

I installed a sata drive but the motherboard nor mac os is recognizing it. Any suggestions? It is installed in the correct sata port given that I have an NVME in the M2M slot on the gigabyte z390
Two things to check:
  • We need to connect both the SATA data cable and the SATA power cable.
  • In BIOS Setup, ensure that SATA mode is set to AHCI.
Then Disk Utility should be able to detect the drive and give you the option to format it.
