I think that I won't get away from a fresh installation this time. CaseySJ do you suggest to try a fresh installation with Opencore this time? Is it a better method than Clover? Do we have enough succeed cases?

Yes I reset NVRAM from the OpenCore w/o luck. After that I couldn't boot even w/o usb. It was booting from my 2nd ssd at win10. With F12 I couldn't also boot and windows was loading again. So I tried a cold boot. Got into Bios and loaded optimized settings. Then restart and put the settings from the guide once again. Then I was able to log back to macos. But with lag again. I tried also resetting NVRAM from Clover boot menu by pressing F11 but again system is laggy. Very strange things...
Strange indeed...
  • What is your BIOS version? Have you tried F9g in which CFG-Lock is unlocked by default? I've been using this version ever since it was posted to the beta website (TechPowerUp?). It's completely solid in my experience.
  • If you prefer to stay on the BIOS that is already installed, then try a CMOS Reset by shorting the two designated pins on motherboard. BIOS parameters will need to be configured once again. And if MSR 0xE2 had been unlocked before, it will need to be unlocked again (switching to F9g avoids having to unlock MSR 0xE2).

Middle and bottom

Hello @oreoapple,

If you hold the GC-Alpine Ridge vertically so that the gold PCI pins are pointing down towards the floor, then which two pins are you connecting?
  • The top and middle pins?
  • The middle and bottom pins?

Im on F9b for a long time now on my both systems w/o issues. But if you suggest F9g then I can try it out.

We have plenty of successful cases with OpenCore on both Z390 and Z490. In fact, 100% of Z490 installations are done with OpenCore.

If you have a spare SSD, then yes I would certainly recommend a fresh installation. If you create the OpenCore 0.6.0 EFI folder on a USB flash disk and unlock MSR 0xE2, then you can install Mojave or Catalina by following the Z490 Vision D guide (yes, you read that right) but skipping Steps 4, 5, 6, 7. The Z490 guide is located here:
If you decide to do this, feel free to compress and upload your OpenCore EFI folder. You may in fact send it via Private Message (so you don't have to remove serial numbers). I can double-check it before you begin.

Yes I want to try it out! I hope some bugs I had to be fixed with the new method. I will start at the morning and will let you know CaseySJ! I hope everything goes well! :)

@xtreem.p,

Looks like I gave you some bad information! Apologies...

When holding the card vertically with the gold pins pointed down, we need to jump the middle and bottom pins on the GC-Alpine Ridge.

Have you already tried that?

So if I want to use it on a X299 board, what should I do with SSDT? Seems like PCI root path can be an issue according to post #23790...

By the way, BIOS F9g can be downloaded from here:

On X99 and X299 systems, the PCI Root Path is a little bit different from Intel's consumer desktop platforms. It's still relatively straightforward to adapt the SSDT to an X99 or X299 system. Feel free to post the following files if you need help:
  • The system's DSDT (MaciASL --> File --> New from ACPI --> DSDT). Then save the file in either .aml or .dsl format.
  • IOReg. Download and run IORegistryExplorer and select File --> Save As... Then post that file.
