Please try the attached file. This version modifies the fewest bytes. Depending on outcome, we may try another version. After flashing the firmware, please do this:
  • Disable the ACPI renames:
    • RP09._INI to RP09.XINI
    • _L6F to XL6F
  • Disable the previous SSDT:
    • SSDT-TbtOnPch-ThinkPad-X1.aml
  • Use only the attached SSDT (and SSDT-DTPG.aml):
    • SSDT-Z390-TB3HP-DROM.aml
After adding the attached SSDT and flashing the firmware, perform two COLD boots as follows:
  • With no TB3 devices attached. Check System Information --> Thunderbolt.
    • Do you see Thunderbolt Bus?
    • If so, hot-plug the TB3 device. Does it connect and work?
  • With TB3 device attached. Check System Information --> Thunderbolt.
    • Do you see Thunderbolt Bus?
    • If so, does it work?
Hell i don't knew that making TB working on Hacki is difficult like this
Thank you for your Thread, only your content and your help convinced me to build my first Hackintosh

For Alpine Ridge controllers we can usually enable Thunderbolt Bus with SSDT alone (without flashing firmware). This doesn't work on every motherboard, but does work on many.

@CaseySJ Thank you so much for this tutorial. I basically bought a bunch of different SOIC-8 clamps and i used the cheapest one but desoldered the one with the wires and then soldered those wires onto the cheap one and it finally worked!!! Thank you so much! Now i truly have a solid Hackintosh that works with the QNAP TS453BT3 via Thunderbolt3. My editing workflow thanks you!

Glad to hear it! QNAP Thunderbolt NAS drives only work when Thunderbolt Bus is enabled -- so the option to flash was a necessary one!

Just finished flashing the firmware. Soooo it works now! Had to use Thunderbolt3Unblocker to make my TB16 dock work, otherwise it says "unsupported" in the Thunderbolt menu (attached)

Hotplug works both with and without the TB3 device present at boot. Will do some more test with BIOS Assist mode, but this looks very promising.

Thank you sooooo much Casey, I can't stress how much help you've been. I'm going to say it again, if there's any way to buy you a beer (PayPal, Venmo, etc.), let me know!

Awesome -- that's more like it!

I'll add your firmware to the Repository soon. Some related questions:
  • Was it necessary to disable BIOS Assist mode?
  • Are there any other relevant BIOS parameters on the ThinkPad X1 that other users may need to know?
  • Regarding Thunderbolt3Unblocker, are you using this version:

@PTuser,

Have you heard of Thunderbolt3 Unblocker? If it allows the Dell Thunderbolt Dock to connect, perhaps it's worth checking whether the Focusrite 16Redline will connect as well. I wouldn't get my hopes up too high...

  • Yes, unfortunately the hotplug still doesn't work unless I disable the BIOS Assist mode. Your solution should improve the battery life in theory, I'll have to do some more testing
  • There's a hardware BIOS mod that unlocks the advanced settings, you can read more on that here. The "GPIO3 Force Pwr" setting should have something to do with TB3 iirc.
  • Yep, that's the one
