GPU in the top x16 PCIe socket running at x8

Why is it running at x8?​

Limitation of the Z97 chipset I believe, just isn't enough PCIe lanes available for everything I'm running.

I don´t get it ... If i put my GPU into a x16 pcie slot - why do I only have x8?

If all your other PCIe slots are empty it will run at 16x.

Take a look here http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4960#sp under expansion slots and it explains how the PCIe slots share bandwidth with each other.

From what I understand if you had two GPUs in SLI both would run at 8x due to the bandwidth limitations.
