Comments

First off, thanks for the vast amount of resources available here on tonymacx86.com! I have been reading/dreaming about the day I would be able to upgrade my hardware from the old 2006 Macbook Pro I have been limping along with for too many years, she served me well but it was way past the time for an upgrade.

All components listed above are in Buyer's Guide for CustoMac Pro.

Installation

Step 1: Follow this Guide under the installation guide (http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/u...pitan-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.172672/).

Step 2: Follow the walk through here for this motherboard: http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/el-capitan-on-ga-z170x-ud5-success.193293/
Notes: I had to "Fix USB Ownership" in order for both my installation to succeed and for my actual startup disk to work.

Step 3: Complete the Installation Guides above, DO NOT INSTALL Graphics Drivers at all until you have gotten the startup cycle working, you will need to use the boot argument in the boot loader nv_disable=1 for the monitor to load without going black.

Step 4: Use the post referenced on the post in step 2 to fix the NVIDA Driver install and have fully accelerated video.

Thanks to all who contributed, it was a good time getting it set up and now I am pulling all my data to a new fast and very capable Hackintosh.

EDIT 1: Updated build to include some additional hardware including "PC/HACKINTOSH - APPLE BROADCOM BCM94360CD - 802.11 A/B/G/N/AC + BLUETOOTH 4.0" from OSXWIFI, native support for bluetooth and Handoff, Plug and Play. Also installed a bluray rw.

EDIT 2; Sleep/Wake Problem solved with "darkwake=0" setting in config via clover.

Just a quick update, I have had a few days to use the machine, I don't seem to be experiencing any major issues, sleep/wake seems to work fine without any major hiccups. I did have a external drive plugged in via USB 3.0 port yesterday and when it went to sleep it apparently "ejected" the drive as I had a notification that the disk wasn't properly ejected, although it was mounted again when I logged back in, minor glitch in my opinion.

iMessage is exhibiting strange behavior, however I have not had a chance to look into it yet, I am not able to initiate an iMessage w/contacts that I know use iMessage unless I have received a message while the application is active and I have received on my iPhone. It is strange however, I do know from the forums there are issues with this, it was expected.

I also plan on running some benchmarks to ensure everything is running as expected, will post more when I have it.

Edit:
I have now gotten the I/O Gear Bluetooth Adaptor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007GFX0PY/?tag=tonymacx86com-20 to work via the instructions/kext loader referred to here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/iogear-usb-bluetooth-el-capitan.174350/ way simple compared to all I read, seems to be stable thus far, however only using an apple bluetooth mini keyboard with it. There is no Handoff support AFAIK with the USB Dongles (based on what I have read on multiple forum posts.)

Edit #2:

So in regards to the I/O Gear Bluetooth Adaptor noted above, if this is installed in the computer during setup of a fresh install, there is no reason to run through the instructions I placed up in the first edit as it worked "natively" with no hacking of the system kext.

iMessage is working also by using this simple post provided to me by UtterDisbelief: 2) To get iMessage/Facetime (and Handoff/Continuity if you have an original Apple wi-if/BT card) working go through -

http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/an-idiots-guide-to-imessage.196827/

Absolutely worked like a charm.

Edit#3:

So after a reinstall of the whole system, I discovered by leaving the I/O gear bluetooth in during a clean install I didn't have to modify anything suggested in Edit 2 above. The system recognized the bluetooth as "native" hardware, and it seems to utilize handoff features (if getting an actual text via iMessage counts, or placing a phone call via iPhone from the Facetime app counts)

Edit #4:

Updated to Sierra using native upgrade per forum post, following items broke for me:

Video: Black Screen on boot, used Manual AGP Fix through terminal, original post part #2 changing Config2 to none for the MB.

Audio: Fixed with post https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/sierra-desktop-realtek-applehda-audio.197923/

Bluetooth: Broke, it was actually USB Issues with new port limits, fixed using https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/usb-new-raise-port-limit-patch-for-macos-10-12-sierra.202329/

Siri, iMessage, Facetime all seem to continue to work from the El Capitan install per above.

Once again, thank you to all the resources available on this site!

Edit #5:

Currently on 10.12.2 - Updates thusfar have been uneventful, all seems to work except NVIDIA, this is fixed using

Method 3:

  1. Open Terminal
  2. Enter this command (it is one line)
    sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy.kext/Contents/Info.plist
  3. Arrow down to where you see <key>ConfigMap</key>
  4. For the iMac17,1 Mac-B809C3757DA9BB8D change the appropriate entry to "none".
  5. Save the file by pressing Ctrl+O, then enter.
  6. Exit by pressing Ctrl+X
  7. Rebuild the kernel cache using the following two commands in terminal:
    sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
    sudo kextcache -system-caches
  8. Reboot
Edit #6

Updated to 10.12.5 - No issues, used same method described in Edit #5 to fix video.

Edit #7

Been a while since I update, I won't be able to say where I got info from but it was this forum. I have added a Windows Drive (SSD) and sucessfully dual boot no problems, I do have a slight irratation that was solved by a USB sound (Sabrent) output. When in windows the onboard sound output is in one jack, when in OSX it is in another, it was a pain to use the rear panel, the headphone was constant on both systems but I didn't like have my speakers plugged in on the front panel.

I am currently on 10.13.4 and can not think of any times I have had issues with updates other than video (fixed as above each time) and as of recent updates, it doesn't seem to be needed any longer, just update NVIDIA driver and it works.

Used Rehabmans USB guide to finalize the SSDT for my board and reduce the total number of available ports, seems to be more constant after sleep, I haven't noted any malfunctions like ports dropping off as before.

Pretty happy with my build it has been constant for a couple years it seems outside of me tinkering and having to fix self imposed errors. I think I am going to upgrade my NVIDIA card to a 4g model, perhaps something more geared to gaming... any suggestions?
