Apple Mac OS X Version 10.9 Mavericks

Update

I just installed macOS Sierra (10.12) using the direct update with clover guide. For booting in the install I used the "inject kexts", "no cache" and "verbose" mode and everything went smoothly from there. After the install audio was gone, but I used toleda's audio command (use 120 versions) and now audio is working again.

So far everything seems to work.

older Update

I just installed OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Following the installation guide using Multibeast 8.0.1 and Unibeast 6.1.1 everything went absolutely smooth. For the initial boot of the installation USB drive I used the BIOS settings mentioned below in my more detailed installation guidelines (tip: I saved them in bios as a profile, so it is easy to switch back and forth). Except from that everything is exactly as described in the installation guideline. I also used the equivalent selections in Multibeast which worked fine.

Post install

I had problems with my sound not working every now and then. I had to use the Codec-Commander by Rehabman as advised by Toleda (see e.g. here).

Installation Guide for 10.9 Mavericks

This is the new installation guide for OS X 10.9 Mavericks which used Multibeast 6.0.0 and Unibeast 3.0.1. You can find the old instructions for 10.8.5 at the bottom of this post.
I used the F7 bios version from the gigabyte homepage and did the bios changes as described here, except for the following differences:

  • There is no 'High Precision Event Timer' option any more, so nothing to change here
  • I'm using the internal graphic, so i set the bios option 'Initial Display output' to IGFX.

I used the guide for installing 10.9, made a bootable USB stick with unibeast and booted the computer from it. There was no problem getting to the installer. At first I tried to install 10.9 on a hd with several partitions and operating systems. This did not work since chimera would not recognize the os, but when I installed it on a hd with only one partition everything went perfectly. At the first boot I had to use the -x flag. Afterwards I installed multibeast and installed the following drivers and bootloader:
multibeast_n.png

After a restart everything works out of the box without any bootflags. My hd4600 is recognized as well as ethernet, wireless,... Sleep is working...Until now the only problem that occured are the missing steps with speedstep (at the moment it only uses 8x, 35x, 37x). I'll have to work on that.

Just for the information I'm also posting my org.chameleon.Boot.plist
boot.png
and a screenshot of my hdmonitor
hwmon.png
And here you have the updated Geekbench without any overclocking:

And a cinebench score:

P.S. There is a nice step by step guide of short. It might give you some extra hints for this build if you don't understand some part of my guide because they are not detailed enough.
P.P.S. If you plan to use an extra graphics adapter refer to squadsevens build.

EDIT: Did a quick fix on the multibeast options. I accidentally had put the wrong picture online :|. But now all important options are included.

Comments

---> Have a look at the updates at the bottom of the post!

For the beginning I updated the Bios to Version F7 from the gigabyte homepage.
I then changed the usual bios settings as described here, except for the following differences:
  • There is no 'High Precision Event Timer' option any more, so nothing to change here
  • Contrary to the guide you have to set 'Intel VT-d' as well as 'XHCI mode' to disabled (With the update of unibeast to version 2.1 this probably won't be needed anymore). Also I'm using the internal graphic, so i set the bios option 'Initial Display output' to IGFX.

Afterwards the installation works like a charm until there is the first reboot. Here you have to start the installation from the usb with the bootflag -x, otherwise OS X won't start.
The computer will then boot up. Ethernet will work out of the Box, your graphic card won't.
I then used MultiBeast to install Intel Ethernet drivers.

multi.jpg
Because the Chameleon Version included in MultiBeast is not too up to date and won't support HD4600 graphics you have to download the stand alone installer of chimera 2.2.0 from the tonymacx86.com downloads page.
After the installation I added the following lines to org.chameleon.bool.plist in the Extra folder:

<key>IGPlatformID</key>
<string>0c260000</string>
<key>IGPenabler</key>
<string>Yes</string>

boot.jpg

After the restart the system starts up fine recognizing the HD4600.

Now you can go back to the bios and set XHCI to "auto" so that USB 3.0 will be available, too (I've got no idea why it wouldn't work during the installation...).

Until now I did not bother to test the sound card and the different power states (except for sleep:it's working). I'll keep you posted.

Additional Information

At the beginning I one encountered a boot problem, the so called "boot0 Error". It can be solved easily following MacMan's instructions: boot0 Error: The Official Thread
Until you stated the correct Graphics Platform ID you will have to use GraphicEnabler=No.

UPDATE:

  • Just got the Wifi-card, inserted it and now it works!
  • I just installed the audio kext like following toledos instruction here using HDAEnabler1.kext as well as the audio_alc898-85_patch.command. My front audioport as well as the green rear audioport are working!
  • Just used Geekbench and got 3544 respective 13366 rating!
  • Added higher resolution pictures.
  • Just installed FakeSMC+Plugins via Multibeast and it works perfectly!

hwmonitor.jpg

  • Just got my new bluetooth dongle. It has got a BMC20702 chipset like the iogear dongle from the buyers guide. But since the iogear costs about 40 Euros and this one only about 10 Euros in Germany, I decided to by this one. it works with 10.8.5, even after sleep.
  • I installed my new ssd yesterday and reinstalled OS X 10.8.5. This time I used the new Multibeast 5.5 and did not have to do any manual changes for the internal graphics any more. So the installation got even easier :) According to this article it might still be interesting to set the internal graphics manually because there are different settings possible. E.g. the number I used for my hd4600 is not the chimera 2.2 default number.
  • Nightlite pointed out, that at the moment only the lowest, highest and turbo Powerstates are working. This will probably be fixed with Mavericks.
  • I also wanted to point to this guide with a nice solution for ssd&hdd computers!
  • IMPORTANT: Mavericks is running! Everything seems to work (except for Speedstep). I'll write some more about the installation process,... on sunday.

Nice! Are dual monitors working with your setup? I was using the IntelAzulFB=10 for HD 4600 acceleration but the second monitor's half screen stretched out (only half lol)

I also wasn't able to sleep successfully (and my rig too ;)

I'll keep myself updated via this thread :) Thanks.

Hi nightlite,

I'm not at home at the moment, but I'll try dual monitors later for you.

That's very helpful!

Thanks dasdf! Much appreciated :)

Hurray! This guide worked for me! Thanks a bunch!!

(Same motherboard, using the HD4600 graphics until I get my NVIDIA-card)

Just wanted to tell, that FaceSMC with Plugins from Multibeast works perfectly!

I've got a similar setup! I used Unibeast 2.1.0 that was issued today. Very few problems. I had to use the Intel Network off Multibeast, and I used the guide in the first post for audio. All works splendidly!

Happy you got your build up working, too! :)

How perfect is sleep? Do we need some dsdt patching for this motherboard? My rig is able to go to sleep only once every boot and blanks out going to sleep every subsequent time. Have to reset via the power supply to get it back.
