[Success] AMD RX6000 Series working in macOS

Ultimately the solution:

1. DP: Must be lower case. In all but my last test round it was, but for the start of the last test round when we had the solution, I made it uppercase, delaying the solution.

2. BRG0 File Setup: Download the OpenCore default, and simply change the mentions of PEGP to GFX0. I think I changed just two entries.

Reboot, fixed!

Then I realized the PSU in the Z370-I ITX case was too small / too weak for a RX6900XTXH card (reboots from time to time), so I had to tear it out and put the RX580 back in. Sigh.

RX6900XTXH in great shape just sitting there, next to a dead Intel i5-12400F and dead Asrock B660M-HDV. And 32GB of RAM. And various other sundry bits. Alas. :(

Can anyone tell me why in Final Cut Pro after applying simple effects Radeon RX6600 video stutters, and the graphics card is hardly used at all?

Could it be to do with your iMacPro1,1 SMBIOS? Have you tried using MacPro7,1 instead and see if the GPU activity on that improves? Also do you have RestrictEvents enabled? With the new OC release since last year, Vit9696 mentioned that P & E core use was improved on 12th & 13th gen Intel systems if you had RestrictEvents enabled.

RestrictEvents enabled

I changed the ID to a Mac Pro 7.1 and also changed the graphics card to an older RX5600XT and it's the same. Negligible use of the GPU during operation.

Have a try DaVinci Resolve ?
➧ To better identify if it's Final Cut Pro X specific issue or more general macOS issue

Have you Enable your iGPU ?
Hope this helps

The IGPU on newer Intel CPU's such as the i9-13900K isn't supported in macOS, so if one were present it should be disabled either in the bios, with an SSDT or with a boot arg in your config.plist. Especially if you are using a System Definition for an Apple system that lacks an IGPU.

As ori69's i9-13900KF doesn't contain an IGPU this is a moot point. You should either be using the iMacPro1,1 or MacPro7,1 SMBIOS for your OC setup.

I use an RX 6900 XT with a 12900K and a Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4.

I noticed that my renders in Davinci Resolve do not use the GPU more than 10%, regardless of whether they are 4k or FHD.

I've tried it, but it didn't work:

1. SSDT-BRG0;
2. Custom Framebuffers (Belknap and Belknap);
3. AAPL, slot with Slot-1, Internal;
4. boot-arsgs with -radcodec.

I'm using macOS Ventura 13.5.1, Opencore 0.9.4 and all updated kexts.

My IOReg:

VideoProc normally identifies my RX 6900 XT with HEVC and H264 Codecs.

GFX0 Hackintool Section:

Usage of Hackintosh is normal, transparencies, speed, apparently everything is normal, only using Davinci's renders (the only app I use and that demands GPU) is that it doesn't work 100%.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Are you sure that you don't have any bottleneck in your Davinci timeline : Fusion effect with only CPU code Or A very CPU intensive decode clips (RAW with GPU decode disable ) ?
Is your playback in the timeline smooth ?
What is the speed (FPS) of your Render ?
Hope this helps`

It's an FHD video captured with a Blackmagic Atem Mini Pro.

It has no effects or anything, just cuts.

There is no CPU, memory and/or GPU usage during rendering, everything averages 10% usage (CPU and GPU).

I tried exporting to FHD and also to 4K, the result is the same, practically 10% GPU usage only.

I noticed more people complaining about this behavior here in the thread, but apparently I didn't see any effective solution...
