[Success] Alienware Aurora R6 with 10.12.6

Update: I'm currently running High Sierra 10.13.3 without any major issues.

Use my Clover folder(see attachment) to get your system running after installation. (themes folder has been excluded to decrease size of file)

For stable Nvidia Drivers, I used this script to avoid the bad releases.
So I took the plunge today to try a clean High Sierra on another R6 (my original is still up and running Sierra), but this R6 is an i5, not an i7.

Went through the normal gyrations, and had good luck except could not get sound working (ALC898), or networking and not all USB ports were working.

So I came back here and saw your post! Tried your CLOVER folder instead of mine but system would not boot (never got past the progress bar which filled up but never progressed). I put my CLOVER folder back, but took all the kexts you had and put them in my Clover KEXT/OTHER folder (which only had 1), and rebooted and now I have sound and networking! YAY!

BUT USB ports are still an issue. Can you help out with what I need to do to get all the USB ports working again? If not all, then at least the front 4, plus some selection of the back ones...

Have a look at my earlier post on page 2. Else just see this post. I'm still using the same method on 10.13.3.

The ssdt patches for usb were included in the efi zip file you downloaded. You just have to add an entry to your clover boot args.

This should work as long as Dell used the same motherboard for the i5.

I have a Aurora R7 coming in today, I'm eager to give this a shot... have you guys had any luck with the M.2 drives?

@PopTarts, please update your profile (personal details) with your Motherboard, CPU and Graphics Card.
If you have a prebuilt computer enter make and model instead of motherboard (Mobo).

Thanks, I corrected my profile.

So, I spent many an hour trying to get the R7 to mostly work. I can get the basic OS up and running just fine at the default 1280x1024 resolution, but both Sierra and High Sierra get the "blackout" issue in which the GPU stops sending any signals after the NVIDIA drivers are installed.

The Samsung 960 Evo NVME M.2 drive worked great for being recognized by the OS after the NVME entries were added to the config.plist.

For now, I'm giving up and just running windows; maybe I will revisit in the future.

Would you mind summarizing the config.plist entries you used to get NVMe working? Might try it on my R6.

Sure, it's from this thread:

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...16gb-ram-m-2-nvme-alc1220-bcm943602cs.228467/

It began to show up in the installer (when loading the Recovery OS from the USB) after I included it in the config.plist. I was doing a new build so I added it when I first created the bootable USB drive. I'm pretty sure I didn't have to add it when attempting to install High Sierra.

I also have a recent R7, and can't get past the black screen with the white apple logo. How did you manage to actually install the OS?

I tried my best to modify the UEFI settings as close to the installation guide as I could. But some of the options it asks you to change were not present. Perhaps they're named differently in the Alienware world.

Any guidance you can provide would be great.

So I was able to get Sierra running on my Aurora R7.

Audio doesn't seem to be working:
- I first installed the Voodoo driver
- Then tried installing the Realtek ALC898... still no luck
- Any tips?

No idea how to get WiFi working either but I read in another thread that the Killer 1535 card isn't supported. Just ordered the TP-Link T9E off amazon. Let's see if that will work... or even fit inside the case.

Also, anyone know how I can confirm that the system can recognize and use all 6-cores of the CPU?

Help me computer gods!

Yeah, the Bios settings on the Alienware seems to be really limited. That's the world of vendor made computers, I guess.

How were you able to get the Nvidia drivers working?

One interesting thing was that the default ethernet driver worked, but after following the installation instructions on Multibeast and selecting the 2.2.0 Intel driver, I could not get the ethernet to work.
