Hey everyone,
I've been trying to get my CustoMac to boot up for the first time for a couple days now. I finally managed to get passed the "couldn't allocate runtime area" by reinstalling everything. Now it gets stuck on this screen.

I really want to get this thing working, as I chose all my parts directly from the recommended list and followed all the steps thoroughly. Help is very much appreciated.

Should I just try installing El Capitan instead?

Looks like a USB port problem.
  • If you don't have config.plist>Devices>USB [√] FixOwnership , please do so
  • If that is not the problem, move your USB installer to a different USB 2 Port in the back [If you have USB 2.0 installer]
  • Recheck all your BIOS choices dealing with USB to make sure you have made the recommended choices.
  • You can upload to the Forum your USB installer's EFI>EFI>"CLOVER" folder as compressed file for someone to find any fixable entry there for the issue.

Just got it working and now Sierra is installed and running. in fact I am writing this from the Hackintosh. However, there is only one resolution option for the display, which is this:

Also, the display is laggy, which leads me to believe that my 1060 is not being utilized. How can I fix this?

  • How did you fix the USB Installer Boot Freeze? Readers of your post in this Forum should be able to learn from your troubleshoot.
  • For your Nvidia GTX 1060 Video card Full QE/CI , you can try the following steps:

WTF? I restarted my computer and now it's back to the "couldn't allocate runtime area" again, and won't boot past it. This happens with the USB AND the SSD.

Why is this happening?

EDIT: somehow my bios settings gots changed...

MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE ALL OF YOUR BIOS SETTINGS TO THE RECOMMENDED ONES, EVEN IF YOU MISS ONE IT WILL NOT WORK, AS IT DID FOR ME.

After I install the Nvidia drivers, the system will not boot unless I use /nv_disable=1. Also, I don't see an EFI partition anymore, so I had to create a new config in my documents folder. Will this work? Is this normal?

  • Unless you do the rest of the steps which involves editing the Config.plist to make use of the installed nVidia Webdriver, the System won't know what to do with the driver and will refuse to boot unless you stop the driver from loading using nv_diasble =1 as a config.plist> Boot Argument using Clover Boot Manager >Options>Boot Args:-. In that case you will, get a basic video and the "About This Mac>System Report...>Graphics/Displays" will show "no kext loaded".

Also, I don't see an EFI partition anymore
Where and how did you look for the EFI Partition? Although EFI may be seen on the desktop transiently after you install Clover EFI bootloader, once you reboot, the EFI Partition will become hidden. The only way you can view and and in some cases edit its contents, is by 'mounting ' the EFI partition using software like EFI mounter V3 or Clover Configurator or using 'diskutil list' command in Terminal to view and other commands to edit.
so I had to create a new config in my documents folder
Sorry, I really don't know what you are talking about.

edited to add:
Because of your Z170 MoBo, perhaps you may need to add EmuVariableUefi-64 in CLOVER > drivers64UEFI folder to get your Video card working in addition to other edits in config.plist. For all that you need to mount EFI Partition using CC-V

I figured out how to mount the EFI, and I saved those settings to the config.plist.

How do I get EmuVariableUefi-64?

EDIT: I followed all of the steps except the EmuVariableUefi-64, but it still did the same thing. Where can I get the file?
