stuck on 10.6.8?

I just completed installing 10.6.8, which I thought would take forever, now I would like to upgrade to 10.7. Is this possible? I can’t sign in to my apple acct from the app store to download 10.7. Am I going to be stuck on 10.6.8? Can someone please help me?

Try to download El Capitan using a link in this support document : https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206886

I am not exactly sure, but I believe there is no more need to go through Lion (10.7) first. Besides, Lion is not free to download.

Edit : I saw in another thread that you were now able to download El Capitan.
