I have not upgraded MyHero II to Catalina due to lack of replacement for my 32bit apps. (Catalina requires 64bit apps.) However, @pastrychef can answer your question. But, I sure your Radeon VII will work in both Mojave (10.14.6) and Catalina from what I've read. Good luck!

Thanks for your quick reply.
There is relative urgency in taking it, but if I do, I want to be at least sure not to regret the dear RX580.
Hopefully @pastrychef will take a look at the question asked in the Catalina forum and maybe he can tell me something about the specific VII model (brand) for which I asked. Especially if it is true that they are all the same, regardless of the brand.

Regards

Upgrade with MSI Radeon VII on Catalina?

Hello everyone and happy 2020.

Can this upgrade be done on this build without risk of problems or need to compromise?

I have already asked the question in more general terms on the forum dedicated to Catalina, but I would be pleased to know the opinion of @Stork (father of this configuration) and @pastrychef (who uses a Radeon VII and is also the curator of golden builds), if not it is too much trouble. Obviously if there is someone who has already upgraded on this build, it could be of great help for suggestions as well as any file sharing.

Thank you

Radeon VII should be an easy drop in replacement for your RX 580.

Catalina hasn't been a problem for me at all and I've been on it since day one of its release.

All Radeon VIIs are reference. There are no real differences between any brand.

Hey guys. Im on Catalina 10.15.2 and see that 10.15.3 is out. Is it ok to simply upgrade using system update?

For use by those who asked for it and who may need it, as information.
I am now done updating to 10.15.3, after backing up the SSD and updating Clover (5103 now) and the basic kext (AppleALC, Lilu, WhateverGreen).
Everything went smoothly, including Clover's correct identification of partitions during reboots.
The process is longer than the previous ones and there are several points where it stops without giving signs of life (for a little too long, becoming almost worrying), but then proceeds to the end.

Greetings to all.

I tried updating Clover from 5101 5103, and, after it got to install, it said that this package was not compatible? So I backed out from the Clover update. Did you get the same warning?

I tried updating Clover....

Yes the same message, from Clover, but I said to install anyway, (I always have the fresh backup before each update).
It is not the first time that Clover give this message on Catalina and now I do not pay attention to it (for that I did not remember to write it in the previous post).
In fact I have not noticed the changes to the EFI since I installed Catalina beta 1 because with two SSDs (one for the official system and the other for the tests), if you have a problem with the EFI you can start the other system (in which you have installed Clover anyway), mount the EFI of the system you have modified and it no longer starts, restore it to the previous condition and restart the system you want, between Mojave or Catalina (or in any case old and new).
The only precaution is to never modify both EFI at the same time to be sure that at least one system always starts, but in any case it also resolves, because in an emergency it starts from USB, but it is a bigger job.

Thanks Simon will try doing the update and let you know.
