The Low Frequency Mode of desktop processors is 1600 MHz. What you see there is the Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework Driver for Windows at work. I don't know if Apple supports this feature, or not, but it should soon all be clear when our new tool is released.

Interesting.
Did Apple update /S*/L*/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist in the 10.8.2 supplemental retina/imac13,1 update?
As I did not install that update (HD6850 problem after this update), perhaps I miss an updated file?
I checked OSXUpd10.8.2.pkg Build 12C3104 and found this:

Ivy Bridge models were added, yes.

Francis, my system is currently updated to supplemental 10.8.2, so I guess no changes in /S*/L*/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist.
Furthermore, adding macmini 6,2 to that seems not causing any issues at all.

Thanks for the explanation. I also think that until the Power Management works in the Sandy Bridge-E we will not be 100% sure

You are most likely running Build 12C60 which is not one of the Ivy Bridge specific updates.

You muts use a smbios.plist edited to present your rig as an IB machine: usually Macmini6,2 iMac13,1 or macbookpro9/10.

See Toleda Thread: Mountain Lion: Native Ivy Bridge CPU and GPU Power Management

Once your rig is identified as an IB machine, you'll be able to download the 10.8.2 supplemental update.

Beware than with some hardware, you could be stuck: my rig (C206 chipset with Xeon E3) does not boot with this update, KP in IOGraphicsFamily, AMDRadeonAccelerator, IOPCIFamily, etc even if PM works ok with 10.8.2 and IB Board-ID (X86PlatformPLugin loads, GPU PM, Speedstep even with disabled in bios, etc). So your mileage may vary... be prepared. :)
