I have a few apple intel cpu management kexts, but not the null cpu kext. My computer behaves similarly when trying to sleep. Upon sleeping monitor goes off, and computer sleeps for about 3 seconds, then lights and fan come on again, this repeats throughout duration of sleep. A couple clicks will bring monitor back on.

[solved] Sleep function works with SSD type only?

Look in your system.log in Console.app for 'Wake reason'. Do you have any external devices connected that could be causing it?

Jun 16 06:46:14 Scotts-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: Wake reason: LANC EHC1

^this is repeated many times each incrementing by about one minute

No external devices connected.

Try turning "wake on lan" and "wake on usb" (if available) off in BIOS.

That did the trick. Wake on LAN was keeping it awake. Thanks again rehabman.
