My 4330s battery started to fail and the main symptom was randomly shutting off the computer (battery being flat with no warning) when PERCENTAGE was still showing 65% etc.

I have put a known to be good battery into computer as a replacement.

I now have the following problem.

Percentage rapidly drops to 0% then stays there for up to two hours.

I have done the following things to try and cure it.

Run battery down till it is flat, put computer on charge for 5 hours.

Performed a shutdown and SMC reset when battery is flat.

Perfromed a shutdown and SMC reset when battery is fully charged.

Checked in BIOS for battery tools but nothing obvious like later model

I do have a 4540 which I could use to check the battery in?

Is there a preference file associated with the power management Kext which I could delete/refresh?

I have Windows 8 on a second internal drive so is there an executable or system command I could run in Windows which would correct things

Many thanks

Ethel

Check for correct battery status on Windows.

Problem with battery status in menu bar

SOLVED

I had the exact same problem in Windows

then when I booted back into OSX the computer totally overheated and shut itself off

I found it would not stay on for more than a few minutes without spinning the fan up to max then shutting down

it did this a number of time

I opened it up and put fresh grease on the processor

restarted and it ran hot for a day

Intel Power Gadget was reporting 80 degrees on idle

the all of a sudden it sorted itself out (guessing the heatsink settled into the grease or something ;/)

been running for about two hours and watching battery percentage fall slowly from 100%

current temperature is 53%

only other thing I did was visit the HWMonitor website and download installer

but I used Pacifist to only install the App and not the drivers

and that now runs in background on startup

happily showing my drives at 28 (WIN HD) and 32 (SSD) degrees

so it's solved

and I have no idea how or why?

Sounds like you used too much thermal compound...

Marking solved.
