Your links are talking about the classic MacPro (cheese grater), not the trash can. There's no way to install a 1080 inside the trash can, even with drivers. It would only be possible externally in a TB2 chassis, at the cost of reduced PCIE bandwidth.
That sucks. :(

Honestly I don't think it would be that hard for NVIDIA to add Pascal support to the macOS driver because this exists already:

NVIDIA FreeBSD drivers w/ Pascal support - http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/105346/en-us

I wish they would release the source code so we could attempt compiling the drivers ourselves.

I think it's safe to say that most creatives have no clue what runs under the hood.
Apple hasn't been about "What's under the hood" for a good while now, yet they still seem to be quite popular.
For the IT professionals on the other hand, it's a whole different story. But most IT professionals don't care about Apple to begin with. I think a good majority of Apple users use Apple because they are either familiar with it's OS (it's what they have been using for years) or because they just want a shiny system with status. That's the truth. If we were here debating hardware and if hardware was the underlining reason for people jumping apple's gloriously thin and shiny ship, this would have been a discussion put to rest years ago. the "I use a Mac for the Adobe apps, i.e., PhotoShop, etc.," is really just a bunch of horse dung at best since it runs better on my Windows rig than it does on any apple rig to date. Give me one example of something you do on a Mac that couldn't be done on Windows. I'll wait. it comes down to personal preference and status. Although status has been hard to justify lately.

I made Hack for iOS development. My Hack for ~650 euros outperforms high-end Mac mini (2014) for 1600 euros and it's upgradable! And don't forget Logic.

Wrong. Most IT professionals in well developed countries use Macs. Fact. I'm a web dev, we all use macs.

Keep on being a hater, see where that gets you. The hell you're doing on this forum anyway?

A great deal of software engineers also use Macs, myself included. macOS has been the best Unix desktop platform for a great number of things, so naturally, it's going to be a great option (expensive yes) for many Unix use cases.

That said we are at a crossroad where some things need a powerful GPU.

Man, this thread is so depressing but I keep coming back haha.

I'm just crossing my fingers for either Nvidia/Pascal in this years' Desktop/Laptop announcements (seems highly unlikely) OR support for AMD cards in Mac OS such that it isn't a pain in the ass to run the cutting edge AMD cards.

Seems unlikely we'll get either of those. Yay!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

first off, I'm not being a hater. just because YOU and YOURS uses macs doesn't mean it outshines the competition in the IT world. Not by a long shot, in fact. I have nothing against apple or it's users. I just think it's a load of shite to say you use mac because it works better. maybe for you it does but that's personal preference and not hard code fact. the initial point was hardware, and in that case apple has been behind for years. and you can say whatever you would like in that fact, but it's just true. We have been paying premium price for over glorified machines that the competition has been putting out 2-3 years ago.
Now if you want to call names and point fingers, we can go that route any day of the week. but get your facts straight first.
