I have a working High Sierra installation. Everything works great except for internet. I am using Apple USB Ethernet Adapter, but it's not detected in the Network settings. I used to have Sierra on this machine (and I've made no hardware changes whatsoever) I was able to plug and play the USB ethernet adapter in Sierra no problem.

No, I did not upgrade from Sierra to High Sierra. Well, I tried, but the update broke the system, so I did a fresh install of High Sierra. Any help would be appreciated.

FYI: The USB port on the computer works fine, and the adapter is fairly new.

Problem solved. Here's what I did:
  • Backed up all kexts from S/L/E which contain the name "USB" and "Ethernet"
  • Removed all those kexts
  • Backed up preference pane for Network
  • Removed preference pane for Network
  • Rebooted
  • Re-installed all kexts using KextBeast
  • Re-installed preference pane for Network
  • Rebooted
  • Viola!
