[Solved] Flashing Screen? No Dock.

After a restart, my dock was missing and the screen just flashes. Cannot open any files on the desktop. I tried with 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 16gb ram. No difference. A window saying "restore windows: The application "Finder" quit unexpectedly while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again? Then gives too options: Don't Restore Windows and Restore Window. Neither makes any difference.

EDIT: I found this command : sudo rm -Rf ~/.Trash/*

How do I use the terminal in the installation disk to empty the trash? The terminal has bash-something already written in it. How do I cd to the place where this command will empty the trash?

SOLUTION: I booted -x -v. From there I was able to empty my trashcan. Fixed problem!

No, what that does is clear the trash can. Not sure why that helps, but that is what that command is.
