Good Day Everyone. I told my wife that I could build a better Hackintosh for a little more money than the new IMac we were looking at to replace our 2012 model. I actually spent a good bit more (adding a Drobo to the list and other nice things). However, for over a week now this build has been sitting on our table (not working) and she is starting to act a little irritated.

I am following the build "Stork's MyHero II Build: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z370 HERO X - i7-8700K - AMD RX 580".

Everything has gone fine until I boot from the SSD for the completion of the install; the progress line gets to about 85% done and it stops. I've re-created this several times, followed instructions every time, created another boot USB, etc., and still get the freeze at the same place. I also can't get a clover Verbose setting to work on this final install boot for some reason. I check the box, run the install from the SSD, and no verbose - just an apple and a progress line.

Here is the build:

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC)
Intel Core I7 - 8700K
Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM- 16GB, 3466 Mhz
Corsair RMX Series, RM750x Modular Power Supply
Sapphire Radeon Pulse Rx-580 8Gb
Broadcom BCM94352Z DW1560 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WLAN + Bluetooth 4.0 M.2 NGFF Mini Card 867 Mbps
Corsair Hydro Series H100i-V2 AIO Liquid CPU Cooler
Samsung860 EVO 1 TB 2.5" SATA III Internal SSD
(2 each) LG-24UD58-B 24" UHD IPS Monitor w/FreeSync (running them from DisplayPort) - both plugged in

The fist problem I had was that the boot USB could not see the SSD. I found a really neat product at a local electronics store - an INSIGNIA Hard Drive Dock. it has a power supply and plugs into a USB 3 port. It holds 2 drives, either SATA or SSD, just slide them in from the top, then push the eject button when you are done. So I hooked that to my old IMac and formatted the SSD, then put it back into the Hackintosh build.

My BIOS Settings followed the instructions in the build:
Updated Bios to latest (ASUS 1602), then:
Optimized Defaults, then,
-VT-d (DISABLED)
-CFG-LOCK (I didn't see this option)
-Secure Boot Mode (Disabled)
-OS Type (Other OS)
-IO Serial Port (I didn't see this option)
-XHCI Handoff (Enabled)
-AI Overclocker (X.M.P)
-Extreme Tweaking (Enabled)
-Graphics Configuration (Primary Display PEG)
-Legacy USB Support (Enabled)
-Keyboard and Mouse Simulation (Disabled)
-Power on by PCI (Disabled)
-Fast Boot (Disabled)
-Boot Logo Display (Disabled)
-Secure Boot OS Type (Other OS)
-Boot Option (instruction say to choose the USB, but mine does not give that as a choice, so I hit F8 on each boot to choose the USB) The SSD does show up as the only option.

I made my boot USB following the instructions but used a USB 3.0 because that is all I had. However, with it progressing as far in the installation as it has, could this still be a problem?

In summary,
1. I boot from the USB Install macOS High Sierra
2. I format the SSD for Max OS Extended Journaled
3. I click on Install High Sierra (the installer runs, then reboots)
4. I follow the instructions to disable the APFS file system conversion and then reboot
5. I choose the USB to boot from again
6. At the Clover Screen I choose High Sierra, the install screen runs, then it reboots
This gets me to step 5, Post Installation with Multibeast
1. I select the USB to boot from
2. At the Clover Screen, I choose the High Sierra installation on the SSD
3. This is where it hangs - I get the apple and a progress bar and it freezes at around 85%. I have left it overnight to see if it is just taking a long time, but it never moves.

I know this is a long post, and sorry if I left out any detail. Really hope that someone can help me with this.

Thanks,
Mike

Boot your system in Verbose Mode and post a picture of your screen when it freezes/hangs.
At Clover Boot Screen press space bar and select Verbose (-v) and Don't reboot on panic (debug=0x100).

Thanks for responding! I rebooted, selected the USB, the checked the Verbose and Don't reboot on panic boxes, then selected the boot from High Sierra on the Clover menu. It booted into the apple graphic with a progress line and stopped again. i don't understand why it won't give me the verbose boot....?

I have gotten past the problem, though I am not sure what I did differently. I built several more installation USB drives and one of them got me all the way through the install.
