that may be the case when windows and mac are on the same partition, using the same EFI. in my case win10 and mac os are on separate volumes.

It's to do with EFI device paths really. If you rely on fallback media paths or ACPI device paths to hard disks, having multiple EFI partitions might seem like a good idea, EFI seeks to make things much easier than that. Problem is the vendor firmware interfaces are broken.
