[Solved]: Black Screen with GTX 1070, LG Ultrafine 5k, Sierra 10.12.4

The overlay data in the mtdd is also an EDID. It's smaller than the overlay EDID of the Dell's mtdd. The overlay EDID is also different than the normal EDID. I think SwitchResX doesn't show the patched EDID? You need a program that can decode EDID 1.4 to determine the differences. I've used parse-edid and edid-decode but they are EDID 1.3. Maybe they've been updated? I haven't checked recently.

Is LG Screen Manager an app that you can uninstall? Maybe it's interfering somehow?

I have found some log using the command line:

 log stream --level:debug

the log indicated that before the lg go offline , there is 3 events,

1. Attempting to install timing
2. displayNotification: display 0x003f003c: device 0x7ff8ccb06670: port 0x00003403: notification begin, 0x003f003c is not physical dispay , I don't know where it come from, strange.
3. IOPresentment do something about AGDC

I am thinking maybe one of above three event make the LG screen went offline.
Maybe the timing installation ? any one have clue? please help.

The overlay data in the mtdd is also an EDID. It's smaller than the overlay EDID of the Dell's mtdd. The overlay EDID is also different than the normal EDID. I think SwitchResX doesn't show the patched EDID? You need a program that can decode EDID 1.4 to determine the differences. I've used parse-edid and edid-decode but they are EDID 1.3. Maybe they've been updated? I haven't checked recently.

Is LG Screen Manager an app that you can uninstall? Maybe it's interfering somehow?

Compare my Dell up2715k's log, LG's timing looks very bad.

exanimate the timing information , return unsupported if info's is not 1920x1080 neither 3840 x 2160 。
It seems more stable , and can works without SwithResX. still go black after few seconds , then turn black at sometime.
I am looking for more stable solution, any one help?

This is a good idea. It resets the DisplayPort path without affecting the PCIe tunneling. That means the USB stuff should continue to work if it was working?

Reseting the DisplayPorts is required for the Dell 5K in macOS. Unplugging the cables works but it's easier to turn off the display, wait a few seconds, then turn it on to get 5K. So a similar thing would work for the LG if the Nvidia thinks it's a Dell (assuming Nvidia doesn't do what's required for 5K displays that are not the Dell). The LG doesn't have a power button, so disconnecting the DisplayPort cables is the only thing you can do.

I have fixed it . it works gread with one cable now . Thanks for your help. there is a
kIODPEventIdle attribute make it work so badly. I just skip this event , and it is ok now .

It might be some off topic of this post,,but is there anyone has the problem with LG 5K after turned off the computer for long time like 24hrs and when I boot again this monitor not showing the screen for 5-10min?, I am sure the monitor is turned on because I can see the brightness control working (Dark to Grey when I tried to control it by keyboard keys.) and the audio work. It is very random sometimes it working right away when the computer turns on. I am sorry my English is bad to explain. But it is like power saving mode? my other monitor is working well (multimonitor using DP connected). So I am using the other monitor my main and LG 5k is second now. Does anyone have the same issue?

Update: latest webdriver 387.10.10.10.30.106 for 10.13.4 works really great, all of the reported graphics issues are solved (lags / artifacts in some apps)

However, the NGFixLG5K by aerror doesn't work for me anymore with this new version, so I cant connect my LG5K anymore :/
