I can live with the wrong RAM speed being reported :)
You can always fix that in com.apple.boot.plist

Got a link to somewhere telling me what to change?
I don't remember where off the top of my head.

Just Google com.apple.boot.plist

The RAM issue I think is more cosmetic - I tried the AsereBLN boot file and it detected the RAM as DDR3, but still only at 800MHz. The big goal with the revised boot file posted here was to fix the clock issue and wrong CPU speed - I can live with the wrong RAM speed being reported :)

True, as long as it's running at the correct speed I don't really care what it reports. Thank you again. I now have an overclocked system with my ram at its full 1600MHz without that damn fast clock and all the video and audio issues it created.

As far as the reported ram in About This Mac, I can change it with OSX86Tools.

Just Google com.apple.boot.plist

Finally found it - it's smbios.plist, not boot.plist.

SMmemtype: 24 (for DDR3)
SMmemspeed: 1600

Err, can anyone tell me where to find the boot file to replace?

Sorry about that, it's been a long day

OH MY GOD and THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Totally fixed the clock on my i5 450M. (This processor is not in the list in your first post, so you can add it.)

Also fixed glitchy VoodooHDA audio.

I was pulling my hair out trying to fix the clock. It was running almost 2x faster, and speedstep is working on my machine. I was going to try DSDT hacking when I found this.

Thanks again!

I found that this didn't work for me. It still shows my CPU as being 2Ghz, where 10.6.3, showed it as it's normal 2.4Ghz.

Hi guys,
could anyone confirm that editing the plist file is just cosmetic? My RAM currently shows as DDR2 667 when it should be DDR3 1600. How do I know if the machine treats it as the faster RAM and if so, would editing the plist file fix it?

Also how can I check if speedstep is working?

many thanks

Stefan
