Any idea?
At a guess, the serial number etc on the iBoot CD is invalid or known to Apple.
You may have to install Chimera and set new SMBIOS values.

Check that your Ethernet is set to en0 and builtin.
You can see that in System Information, Ioreg and Network utility. If not, then go to Network in System Preferences and delete all your devices, apply, then delete Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist. Reboot, go to Network in System Preferences again and add your Ethernet connection.

You mean, install Chimera 4.1.0 from the standalone *.pkg from the Downloads section? Or an older version via Multibeast? I installed 4.1.0. But then, which SMBIOS values do I need to change? How would I obtain a valid serial #?
Here, it says I need Chameleon Wizard. I will try soon.

As far as I could see, the BSD name is indeed en0. From which tool did you make that screenshot? I can see some of that information in System Profiler > Ethernet Cards, but not all of it.
In another thread, a tool named DPCIManager was mentioned. Unfortunately, current v1.5 does not run on SL, only v0.6. It runs, but it seems to be just a "read-only" tool.

It really doesn't matter where you install it from.

Yes, you should use Chameleon Wizard.

Alternatively you could install Clover as you are going to need it in the future.
If so then use Clover Configurator for the SMBIOS information.

I followed the steps regarding ethernet connection, but this doesn't help, so the issue does not come from there.
Yes, you should use Chameleon Wizard.
Does this imply the system needs to boot from HDD without iBoot CD? Because til now, it doesn't.
After running Multibeast (EasyBeast + SystemUtilities) and entering a valid serial number in smbios.plist, system does not boot from HDD! Depending on the boot arguments, either screen turns off ("No signal") or colored stripes show up.
It still boots via iBoot CD -v -f, but then, the serial number is a standard one, not the one from smbios.plist

Could not get it to launch (4.62). Which version is compatible with SL?

You could replace the /Extra folder and contents in the root of your system disk with the one from the iBoot CD.
Then run Chameleon Wizard to modify the Org.Chameleon.Boot.plist

No idea, I've never installed Clover on SL.
Older versions are accessible on the internet.

I tried, but I still couldn't get it to boot... :(
Fortunately, I was able to create a Sierra Install USB drive (UEFI-mode) on an old iMac running Sierra.
I get to Clover and can launch the installer, but it seems to take forever. Even after > 1 hour(!!!), Welcome screen doesn't appear. Is this normal? Should I leave it running overnight? (I also created a USB for El Capitan; does not arrive at Welcome screen either)
Are there any recommended boot options I could try?
As stated in my signature, I have a Radeon RX 470 which is currently not installed in the Customac. Would it make sense to insert it? As far as I understand, Sierra 10.12.4 came preinstalled on Mid-2017 iMacs which feature Radeon 570 Pro.

You must boot in verbose mode in order to see any information that may be useful for problem diagnosis.

Absolutely, HD2000 graphics are unsupported.

Great. After re-inserting the second RAM module and the RX 470, Sierra installer boots. Installation and booting into Sierra according to guide also work. I could log into App Store, install updates etc. But the tricky part comes with Multibeast: After installing suggested packages, I get boot0 error. I can still boot via Clover from USB, but then, network does not work, which worked before.
I am reverting via Time Machine, but my question is, how to get HDD bootable without USB? My goal is to upgrade to High Sierra.

I get boot0 error.
You cannot get the boot:0 error if you boot with Clover so obviously you are not.
You can install it with MultiBeast or the Clover installer.
You can even copy the EFI folder from your USB installer to the EFI partition of your hard drive.
