The problem:

Occasionally when I start-up the machine it will hang after the initial grey screen and before the password log-in screen, here:

It just sits there with a frozen cursor and I have to remove the power and re-boot. I would say this only happens once in 20-30 boot-up's. I have tried to catch the problem with the -v boot flag but in this mode the machine always starts normally.

Once started the machine runs great, is super fast and everything works as it should even after coming out of sleep.

The motherboard BIOS is untouched and apart from Ethernet and Sound (both sorted post-install with MultiBeast) everything worked OOB.

What can be causing this occasional lock-up?
