Sleep - General Troubleshooting Tips

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hey, I was wondering if you ever got it working properly. I've seen a good deal of posts about people having the same problems as us, yet I've found no solution. I'm angry considering this mobo was supposed to just 'work out of the box'. Sleep is a big deal to me.

I have a GA-Z77m-D3H and when I first installed mountain lion sleep worked wonderfully. Computer would turn fully off and come back without issue. Now something has happened since then and sleep results in everything turning off but the fans going full blast. Attempting to resume from sleep gets me nothing and eventually I have to reboot it by pulling the power cable.

I've tried different versions of FakeSMC, and even have gone back to my original kexts setup from when I first installed ML. The only culprit I can identify at this point is the 10.8.4 update. Everything else worked before and now doesn't.

Oddly darkwake=10 will allow the computer to "sort of" sleep but the fans stay on, and its really a crapshoot if it'll wake up properly. The logs give me nothing to run on, as its only reporting a few things before going to sleep, and nothing about trying to wake up.

What fixed it for me was removing the Server app; I believe the services running kept the machine awake. The screen would go off, but the LEDs stayed on. Removing the app immediately fixed it for me.

Just a heads-up!

I've been struggling with sleep ever since I began my build. Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H rev 1.1, BIOS F14.

ISSUE:
My issue is, when I manually or auto sleep, it sleeps for a few seconds, then wakes right back up. Before I disabled the CPU PLL Overvoltage and changed boot priorty from UEFI to P0=SSD Drive, it would turn back on but blank screen. Now (after changing those two items), it wakes back up and screen comes on and everything works, I just can't get it to stay sleeping.

ATTEMPTS:
I have tried PCIROOTID=0, Dark Wake = 0, 8, 10, No. I tried changing the primary boot options from UEFI to P0=SSD Drive. Also tried unplugging my Bluetooth adapter, checking off 3 of the four boxes in Energy Saver (the original instructions on this thread were before the updated Mountain Lion, now there are 4 check boxes but the fourth for Wake on Lan, I leave unchecked). In BIOS, I disabled Wake on Lan, and also disabled the CPU PLL Overvoltage thing.

STILL NEED TO TRY:
The only other thing I haven't tried is rearranging which ports my SATA connectors are going into. I have a memory card reader, an SSD, an HDD, and an optical drive connected via SATA, and I also have a fan controller via molex. I will try checking the different SATA ports I'm using tonight to see if maybe one of those things are causing my issue.

QUESTION:
Are there any other things I can try other than these? I ran Multibeast a long time ago when I first installed ML 10.8.2, and haven't run it again since.

Also, since I have a Gigabyte board, I didn't install any DSDT (and I made sure I don't have that NullPowerManagement kext). Is that correct? I also saw a new option in the newer version of Multibeast about Power Hibernation or something like that, but have not yet attempted to install that. I know some people have had luck with the same motherboard, any other suggestions? Thanks!

Hi killacam7478, I have the exact same hardware/issues as you have. I haven't managed to find a fix yet, but if you do please feel free to message me as I'd be more than interested in getting this stupid sleep issue resolved!

Thanks for any help.

I have the same board and used to have this very problem. However, the problem was solved after installing the Realtek Ethernet driver (uninstall Lnx2Mac's driver if your using it).

The only strange quirk I have now is that I occasionally have to restart mdnsresponder after waking-up, I loose the ability to see Bonjour services on my network, e.g. my Time Machine server.

In lieu of using the realtek driver, you may want to try opening "System Preferences - Network" pane, select "Off" in ipv4 configure, then click "apply". Once that is done, reselect "Using DHCP" (or "Manually" if that your std config) and click "Apply" again. This process of restarting network services SOMETIMES remedied the problem for me.

I have the same problem, Lnx2Mac's says in his webpage that the driver should work with sleep.

Which is this "Realtek Ethernet Driver" you talk about? How do I remove Lnx2Mac's driver?

And I have another problem which doesn't seems THAT related with OS X as it also occurs in Windows. When I put the machine to sleep some times when I try to wake it up the screen stays black and I have to do a hard reset. And some times after the hard reset the machine won't POST at all!!!!! I have to let some time pass (like an hour) to turn it on again like nothing have happened. I'm guessing it has to do with the motherboard, but is just a guess.

My motherboard is a GA-X58A-UD3R (rev 2.0) with FF BIOS.

Thanks

PD: Last question, if removing the flag "darkwake=0" from my Boot.plist doesn't seem to affect anything, should I let it there or remove it?

EDIT: Silly me, the Realtek Driver is in MultiBeast just behind Lnx2Mac's driver, to remove Lnx2Mac's driver I just had to delete the kext from /S/L/E and reboot! It does work after sleep :)

hey everyone, I can't get my OSX to stay asleep. If I tell it to sleep it will begin to sleep, sleep for about 3 seconds, then wake up at the login screen. If I leave it be, it will do this over and over and over again without any interaction.
