hi there, before posting my system (GA-P55M-UD2 / i5 based) i wish i solve this:
I have 4gb [G.SKILL DDR3 4GB PC1600 CL9 KIT (2x2GB) [F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL]
when in dual channel bios says 2048 total memory, is this normal? DSC_5957.jpg
Windows7 shows total 4gb but 2gb are marked as hardware reserved.
Is this right for dual channel?

Try removing and reinstalling the DIMMs...
Check there's no "lint" in the memory slot...
Try swapping the DIMMs...
Try using slots 1&2 (no dual-channel), 2&4, 3&4 (No dual-channel)...
Try using only one DIMM...

Might be a hardware issue with your board or RAM.
These checks should help you identify it...

Well you guys sure do put me to shame in the appearance department. haha.

None the less my systems may look messy but they are second to none in speed.

I can't decide what I like better - the novel "open air" approach to cooling in the top right machine, or the wall of fans in the bottom left. :D

I'm using a single channel and all 4gb are seen correctly. :?:
"Troubles" only in dual channels mode.
i don't know, but isn't there any settings in bios for dual channel mode?
as in photo second channel is seen but not enabled. o_O

So just for fun I reverse mounted my board on the outside of the case. Easy access.

Hard drives, DVD, and Psup mounted inside.

Kinda wish somebody made a case that facilitated this kind of setup..

"Troubles" in both 1&3 and 2&4 ?
What do you get in 2&4 ?

If 2&4 works, it mostly discards the possibility of damaged RAM...
Now try using a single DIMM in Slot 3...
If it doesn't work, you might have to RMA your mobo...

I love it! Just be careful of ESD! Very easy for someone to walk across the carpet and touch something....ZAPPP

Pc does not even start other than 1&2 (full 4gb single channel) or 1&3 (dual channel but with 2gb total ram )

Do you think it's a mobo problem?

Most probably...
