With so many great guides on the site, I wasn't going to post my build. But during my build process, I couldn't find anyone with the exact same setup and a confirmed 100% working build. So hope this is of some help to people interested in similar build as I'm very happy with it achieving working condition for every part of the components.

This is my second hackintosh build, my first build was from 4 years ago, you can check it out here -> http://www.tonymacx86.com/overclocking/7425-core-i7-870-ga-p55-usb3-rev2-4-2ghz-build.html. Although I was perfectly happy with my 4-year old setup, a can of coke accidentally fell on top of my Antec Nine Hundred case, coke went into the motherboard and it died instantly D:

HARDWARE SELECTION
I selected the components from this site's CustoMac section. During the component selection process, I wanted to have as many things built onto the board as possible, including WiFi & Bluetooth. Although I'll probably be fine with just USB3.0, I also prefer it to be thunderbolt ready. Initially I was going to go with a Thunderbolt 2.0 board. However, by balancing my practical usage with the TH 2.0 board's cost, I decided to go with TH 1.0 and the Z87X-UD5 TH board. Overall the installation was relatively smooth. I had some troubles with thunderbolt & Bluetooth initially but eventually everything is working perfectly.

PREPARATION
Pretty straight forward, have the following ready:
  • Download UniBeast from this site, latest Maverick 10.9.5 installation app from the App Store
  • 2x USB flash drive: one 8GB or larger USB stick for installation and one for flashing to the latest (beta)BIOS
  • Download the latest BIOS F5d(as of 10/9/14) from Gigabyte Here http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4593#bios, flash to the latest using Q-Flash in the BIOS.
BIOS setup:
only the ones I’ve changed are listed, the rest are left to default. For overclocking , check out the Overclocking section further down
  • Load optimized default
  • Advanced CPU Core Settings -> Turbot Boost: Disabled
  • Advanced CPU Core Settings -> C1E: Disabled
  • Advanced CPU Core Settings -> XMP: Profile 1
  • BIOS Features -> VT-d: Disabled
  • Peripherals -> XHCI Hand-off: Enabled
  • Peripherals -> EHCI Hand-off: Enabled
  • Peripherals -> Thunderbolt -> Security Level: Legacy Mode

INSTALLATION
My SSD wasn't broken and I had Maverick 10.9.2 installation on it already. So when I ran UniBeast, I just chose upgrading rather than new install. If you're also upgrading from a previous installation, I recommend using the terminal utility during installation, or mount your OS drive to a different computer, delete the "/Extra" folder and remove any custom kext from "/System/Library/Extensions/" directory before continuing to avoid any possible conflicts.

POST INSTALLATION
  • Boot from UniBeast USB drive then select the installed drive at Chameleon boot screen.
  • Download MultiBeast v6.5

MultiBeast Setup

Power Management
  • Make sure DropSSDT is selected from Multibeast
  • Download sdtPRGen.sh and go to the downloaded directory, run the following from Terminal:
    Code:
    ./ssdtPRGen.sh -turbo 4000
select "no" -> "no", then move the ssdt.aml to the /Extra folder:
    Code:
    mv ~/Desktop/ssdt.aml /Extra/SSDT.aml
  • Download and run Chameleon Wizard(attached), make sure both P-States & C-States are unchecked as following:
    Screenshot 2014-10-10 14.25.29.png
  • Reboot and make sure PM is working and XCPM is registered, also check with Intel Power Gadget
    Screenshot 2014-10-07 23.10.03.png

Wifi & Bluetooth
  • Wi-Fi: Install ToledaARPT.kext using Kext Wizard(both attached)
  • Bluetooth: Install Bluetooth Firmware Uploader 2.6(attached)
  • Repair disk permission and reboot

Thunderbolt
  • Install Windows 7 on a separate drive
  • Download & install all the system drivers from Gigabyte's website
  • Plug-in your Thunderbolt device & make sure it's detected under windows
  • Boot into OSX WITH the Win7 drive & thunderbolt attached(it'll take quite a bit longer to boot)
  • Thunderbolt drive should be available & functional after OS X has been fully loaded

iMessage/iCloud/Facetime Fix
I had to inject a working MLB & ROM from my MacBook Air to make my Facetime & Message work, as they weren't connecting to the server after the installation. If you encounter the similar error, I highly recommend reading through post's "My Facetime & Message weren't working after installation" section from insanelymac.com for troubleshooting.

Sleep & Wake
Initially I had minor issue with sleep & wake up. It would wake-up by itself with a blank screen, after I've disabled both WoL in the BIOs and in Energy Saver, installed NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, repaired disk permission, the problem went away. In system preference's Energy Saver, I have the first 2 checked

OVERCLOCKING
I actually have no need to overclock but if it's "free" boost, why not... :) So my approach to this is to see how fast I can push the i7-4790K without any additional hardware with minimum vcore voltage added(under 1.2v). I won't go into detail to explain the overclocking process since it's beyond the scope of this post. But I'll list my settings:
  • changed SSDT settings:
    Code:
    ./ssdtPRGen.sh -turbo 4600
  • BIOS - Multipler changed to 46
  • BIOS - vcore: 1.95v
  • BIOS - CPU VRIN Loadline Calibration: Medium
CPU Temperature is 34c/71c respectively with the ambient temp of 25c.

Great build

That is a serious CPU cooler you have there! Any problems fitting / space around components?

Your methodical work on all of the necessary configurations using Terminal is clear and easy to understand. I find the sleep/wake aspects of any build to be the trickiest to sort, so if you've got a fully sorted system I congratulate you! Well done! :headbang:

Thanks! Added few photos, and you can see, the Noctua D-14 is actually fitted comfortably inside the case. As mentioned in my first post, I really didn't run into too much trouble setting up the system. I think selecting the compatible components(thanks to this site) and doing sufficient research before building the system is the key to a successful build.

BTW I love the Fractual Define R4 case and my new setup. It's so much quieter than my previous setup(it wasn't that loud before) and barely audible in a quite room sitting next to it.

Hey Shinew,

I wanted to first thank you for making this guide. It's the main one I've been using to get my system up and running, as I have the same processor and motherboard. I had a quick question that I'm stumped on.

For the power management, you say "Download sdtPRGen.sh...". I can't for the life of me figure out where I'm supposed to download this file. Could you point in the right direction?

Thanks!

Sorry I never said thank you! I've been super busy with other things in life, but the computer is mostly completed. I might have a few more questions in the next coming weeks, if you're willing.

Thanks again!

Great write-up Shinew! I was wondering how you got HDMI audio working and if you installed the CUDA drivers for GFX card?

Thanks for the detailed installation guide, this build is the closest to my hardware (not currently the board in my sig, thats another build, I'm using the same board as you right now with a 4770K, 16GB of RAM and 610 Graphics card) i can find so am going to attempt mine following this guide.
I'd ideally like to be installing Sierra but might try this first just to get a solid system. Have you upgraded this build to Sierra?
If you have how did you go about it or do you have any specific recommendations ? I cant find a Sierra specific build guide for this board and when i tried to install following the generic guide the NVinject for my 610 graphics card didnt seem to work and i was getting freezes on the login screen.
I was able to boot into the OS if i booted discarding all additional drivers but am thinking rather than trying to dig around fault finding i should try this build first.
this is the first build ive attempted in a looong time (last one was before clover was introduced so ive never used clover before).
Thanks!
