Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 on macOS

Orinoco? Framebuffer and clover graphics setting dual link 1.

No luck. I found that from one of your older threads too in which the OP mentioned that he was able to get the second monitor working with the mirroring. But it doesn't happen in my case. I am pretty sure that I need to find the right frame buffer and it would start working. But I just can't wrap my head around the radeon_bios_decoder code because it no longer works with the Vega ROM. I checked the code and there is a new entity in the BIOS structure which it does not understand and thus skips it without printing.

I was able to fix this problem. I needed Pike's patch for AppleGraphicsKext.. :D :D

May I ask which patch exactly? I plan to buy a Vega as well..

Kext: AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy
Find: <626f6172 642d6964>
Replace: <626f6172 642d6978>
(c)Pike R. Alpha

You don't need Lilu or whatever green for this to work. However, if I use them, then my GPU gets detected correctly.

I wanted to share my success because I could only find a little material about Radeon Vega cards. I installed a Sapphire Radeon Vega 64 limited edition card and it works admirably right out of the box. I am using a 4k LG monitor and a 1080p Dell monitor in my system. The highest resolutions are supported and run very smooth. For me, the card is not loud and it is a great solution for Windows 10 dual booting. Google Chrome is a little wonky but that has been address by other comments on this site. I did not do anything special kext wise to gain performance or compatibility with the card. I did however set up my config.plist to and choose my hardware to closely match an iMac 15,1. I hope this is helpful for anyone trying to make a decision on purchasing a GPU.

My experience is great as well. Plug in, boot up - enjoy. Even DP-/HDMI-Audio does work OOB! I ran FurMark on the Vega RX 64 Liquid and I got 22.667 points with a on a stock-clocked 4790K with 32 GB RAM on High Sierra 10.13.1 Beta 2. Beside this benchmark I have to say that I never got such a fluid desktop experience on a Mac. Everything runs smooth, no stuttering, no performance issues. Not even on a MacBook Pro 2017 this experience is achievable. Chrome ****s up, but this piece of crap ****s up on a Mac Book Pro as well: Everything is slow, stuttering, low performance everywhere (especially the frickin' dev tools are bugged as hell). So, kudos to Google!

I would say, this card is - by far - the best card for hackintoshers at this moment. I say even for real Macs - but I don't have a Pro, so I can't confirm that.

Which Card is that exactly?
Can you benchmark the Vega alone, without the Iris Pro!?

This is the Result for my Radeon 290X.

I have the AMD Vega RX 64 Liquid Cooled Edition (default PCB from AMD). It has the default Cooler Master AiO liquid cooler, nothing modified. It is running BIOS 1 in balanced mode (BIOS 2 has slightly lower power consumption and can be switched to via a switch on the card itself).

I repeated the test with only the Vega and got even slightly higher results (I suggest this is within the margin of inaccuracy). I am currently running macOS 10.13.1 Beta 5, maybe you can get even higher results with 10.13.2 Beta 1 since the driver version for the Vega has been bumped up.

The overall UI experience is absolutely amazing while running on a 65" 4K Samsung in 3.008x1.692 HiDPI (makes 6.016x3.384 ~ 20 Megapixel rendering resolution) compared to a GTX 1060 / GTX 1080 Ti / GTX 780! Plus basically everything is working OOB. This is hard to put into a value since this is a matter of subjective impression.

EDIT: I don't know why the heck the Intel Iris is listed in the result window, but it was definitely unchecked on the right side panel.

Benchmark RX Vega 56.

Card is working “out of box” and the only problem I have experienced is sleep.

My rig is going to sleep and wake up perfectly the first time but always crash with blank screen or restart the second time if I use the automatic mode

If I put it to sleep manually everything works fine every time and the machine wakes up with a perfect screen every time.

Has anybody a solution for this problem?

Is Chrome bug-free for you too? I'm on the fence on getting a Vega, but I'm really not willing to give up Chrome.
