So after bouncing around to a few different devices including an old Mac Pro and Mac Mini, its time to upgrade/replace my custom.

Currently it is a i5-2400 on a GA-H67-UD3 and a GeForce 210. It is still running Sierra (upgrade to HS never worked even though it should have and I had other options as noted above). Mojave and Catalina meant the GeForce needed to go too...

So here's the question. Would I be able to pop in an RX 580 and either upgrade in place or fresh install, or are the Sandy Bridge Procs too old? I'd love to just buy the new card and squeeze a few more months/year out of it then do a full upgrade of everything on 10th Gen chips (and just take the card over to it).

TL:DR will an i5-2400 and GA-H67-UD3 support Catalina with an RX580?

Yes, it's possible. You need to search for info about Sandy Bridge on Mojave, since that's when CPU support and SMBIOS stuff changed.

This thread, for example: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/solved-mojave-with-sandybridge-i5-2500k-possible.261421/

I usually use this, in combination with Wikipedia, to research what the changes in OS X hardware support are: https://eshop.macsales.com/guides/Mac_OS_X_Compatibility
Although, in the case of Mojave, some of the dropped hardware was for graphics reasons (Metal), rather than CPU ones.

Sweet. Ordered.
