Looks like running Linux natively on the M1 has just been achieved by Corellium > https://www.techpowerup.com/277505/linux-gets-ported-to-apples-m1-based-devices

M1 GPU is confirmed to be running under software rendering, so proper drivers could
come soon. Given ARMs extensive userbase in Android/Linux OSes, I would assume
getting an M1-compatible Linux driver (or port) is only a matter of time.
